Here's the first look at Elvenking Thranduil from The Hobbit

08.31.2012

Most people recognize Lee Pace as the star of the excellent yet short-lived PUSHING DAISIES or from Tarsem's underrated THE FALL. Pace is a good actor and looks to be hitting the big time with his role in the upcoming THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. TheOneRing.net has posted the first glimpse of Pace in character as Elvenking Thranduil. If you don't know who that is, just know that Legolas also calls him Daddy.

That image as well as our first look at The White Council appear in the upcoming THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY annual magazine. What we can tell from the images is that Peter Jackson has stepped right back into the world he created and looks like not a detail was missed.

It has been a long time since I read THE HOBBIT, but I think I will have to before December 14th to make sure I am not missing anything. What do you think?

The additional information panel that was at OneRing.net gave a reason for this crown to look this way. I believe it was a description by Tolkien, explaining that Thranduil changed his crown to reflect the seasons and it was Autumn in this part of Middle Earth.

Remember, Saruman doesnt turn for another 75 years or so. At this time, he is head of the Council of White, chief enemy of Sauron and Ghandalf's mentor/boss. He's a good guy!!
