Here's your first still and synopsis from Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Apr. 8, 2013by:

We've seen concept art, gotten some pretty interesting casting (looking at you, Redford!), and have heard plenty of rumors fly surrounding CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Today it looks like Marvel is making it all official since filming has begun.

Marvel has provided us with the cast, plot, and even provided us with a character name for Redford: Alexander Pierce. Oh, and yes, Hayley Atwell is back. I'm going to leave you with the release:

Following in the footsteps of the record-breaking Marvel Studios release, Marvels The Avengers, production on the highly anticipated release, Marvels Captain America: The Winter Soldier has commenced in Los Angeles, California, with production also including locations in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington D.C. Directing the film is the team of Anthony and Joe Russo (Welcome to Collinwood) from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus (Captain America: The First Avenger) & Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger). Captain America: The Winter Soldier returns Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvels The Avengers) as the iconic super hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America, along with Scarlett Johansson (Marvels The Avengers, Iron Man 2) as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson (Marvels The Avengers, Iron Man 2) as Nick Fury. In addition, film icon Robert Redford has joined the all-star cast as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for release in the U.S. on April 4, 2014.

Plot: Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvels The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Captain America: The Winter Soldier features an outstanding supporting cast that includes Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger, Black Swan) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Million Dollar Baby) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Cobie Smulders (Marvels The Avengers, How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill, Frank Grillo (Zero Dark Thirty) as Brock Rumlow and Georges St-Pierre (Death Warrior) as Georges Batroc. Rounding out the talented cast are Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger, The Hunger Games) as Arnim Zola, Emily VanCamp (The Ring 2, Revenge) as Agent 13 and Maximiliano Hernndez (Marvels The Avengers, Thor) as Agent Jasper Sitwell.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis DEsposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (Elysium, District 9), production designer Peter Wenham (21 Jump Street, Fast Five), editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. (Star Wars: Episode 7, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and three time Oscar-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (The Hunger Games, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone).

Marvel Studios upcoming release schedule includes Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, and Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013. The studio most recently produced the critically acclaimed Marvels The Avengers, which set the all-time, domestic three-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film, which shattered both domestic and international box office records, is Disneys highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studios fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth, and Captain America: The First Avenger, starring Chris Evans. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 Iron Man 2, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. Iron Man, in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the super heros powerful armor and stars alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released The Incredible Hulk, marking its second number one opener of that summer.

I'm hoping it's good... But the fact that the only other FILM credit that the directors have is You, Me and Dupree makes me a little worried.

hmmmm

I remember not liking the first film when i saw it. I watched it not long ago for asecond time and i enjoyed it more. But i feel the same way i felt aboutthis one as i did the first before it came out, not that pumped!!
caps was the weakest of the 4 main avengers in the avengers movie. the scene where he gets into a fire fight with one guy the whole time while iron man is out fixing the rotor is just pathetic. in the entire movie he does what? saves about beats up about 5-6 guys!! i just

Great to see that Scarlett Johansson is gearing up again. Haven't heard any news about Hawkeye showing up, but it would be really nice if Jeremy Renner could at least make a cameo somewhere in this one...

Interesting. It kind of looks like he is wearing his uniform from the first movie, not the Avengers costume.

Worst Marketing Release of ALL TIME

Are you kidding me? Who was that release intended for?? I learned absolutely nothing except that investing in the production of the third installment may provide gainful return on said investment

Yes yes yes!

I'm still reeling from this shared universe business. I thought I was over it after The Avengers, but I'm not. Seeing Black Widow go from Iron Man 2, to a Captain America film and not at all be a weird /stunt casting occurrence, but instead actually be a natural process is just damn amazing. It's what every nerd dreamed off a few decades back, and the fact that it's a genuine (regular) occurrence is mind blowing.

I just sincerely hope that these new directors (to both Cap and Thor) turn out

I just sincerely hope that these new directors (to both Cap and Thor) turn out to be genuinely strong film-makers. I'd hate for Phase 2 to drop the buck, but hopefully Marvel now has enough of a guiding hand in the production department (and Joss Whedon) to make that less and less of a possibility.

Atwell is great, nice to see her make a return. I already miss Hugo Weaving's Red Skull and the Howling Commandos, I hope to see them back one day, but I have a feeling they will end up, much like The Leader in Incredible Hulk, as a plot strand that doesn't get picked up...

I guess we'll see, and I'm damn well looking forward to finding out what's in store.

Awesome to hear Black Widow's getting more than a cameo in this. One of my favorite moments in Avengers is when Cap launches Black Widow on to that alien gunship for her to hijack, he first asks "You sure about this?" and she replies "yeah...its going to be fun." Its essentially marking the moment where Black Widow goes from superspy to superhero.

Sounds crazy awesome so far. Even though I preferred Thor to Captain America: The First Avenger, this film sounds more interesting than Thor: The Dark World. It is early days, but I'm looking forward to a really kickass Captain America sequel.

Definitely my most anticipated solo Avenger Marvel film after Iron Man 3. I thought the first Captain America was great and gave Iron Man 1 a run for its money in being the best film Phase one film before Avengers.

I'm also very excited to see Hayley Atwell back. Flashback or present time.
