Highlander reboot loses Ryan Reynolds

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Ryan Reynolds has evidently dropped out of the HIGHLANDER reboot, The Wrap reports. It’s just the latest setback for a film that has been in the works for several years.

There reason appears to be the film’s lack of director and general failure to gain momentum on the part of SUmmit Entertainment. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 WEEKS LATER) departed the project last year, following in the footsteps of original director Justin Lin (who left in 2009). The ship has been without a captain since, which probably frustrated Reynolds to the point where he had no choice but to abandon it.

The screenplay for HIGHLANDER has been toiled over by many, including IRON MAN scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and TWILIGHT screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg. No word on whether or not producer Neal Moritz will attempt to conjure up a new screenplay while searching for a director and a star.

Maybe it’s time to chop this HIGHLANDER’s head off for good?
