Hilarious U.S. trailer for I Give It A Year starring Rose Byrne, Anna Faris, and Rafe Spall

Jun. 18, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Yes, I used boobies to bring you here.

Writer/Director Dan Mazer has made a name for himself with the Sacha Baron Cohen comedies BRUNO, BORAT, and ALI G IN DA HOUSE, and is now moving on to his own features, starting with the British romcom I GIVE IT A YEAR. The straightforward pic follows the "trials and tribulations of a newlywed couple during their first year of marriage," but with some edgier, psuedo-raunchy humor. The film is packed with a great cast, many of which who are no strangers to the genre, including Rose Byrne (BRIDESMAIDS), Anna Faris (THE HOUSE BUNNY), Minnie Driver (GROSSE POINTE BLANK), Rafe Spall (SHAUN OF THE DEAD), and Simon Baker (The Mentalist). It looks like a blast, which isn't something I say often about this genre, but Mazer at the helm and the solid cast sell it easily.

Take a look:

Y'know, from time to time, those of us with a female counterpart are dragged to romcom's throughout the year, which is almost always a mind-numbing affair, but when you find one that has the potential to please both parties, then you've got a winner. I'm keeping this one in mind for a late summer date night.

I GIVE IT A YEAR is slated for August 9, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: What's your favorite romcom? I'm still a big fan of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Five-Year Engagement. Jason Segal has done all right by me in the genre.

This has came out quite a while back in the UK and elsewhere. I liked it, it was pretty funny and featured a good mix of acerbic cynicism, gross-out gags and big comedic set pieces (including one with a dove and a ceiling fan). It's the sort of movie that takes place in a world where nobody has any tact, so expect lots of insults flung around. It's just that it's hard to root for the leading couple to stay together, but maybe that was the point of it.

This came out in Australia a few months ago and, I'm not lying when I'm saying this, it's the worst film I've seen so far this year. The cast try their best but they could save it. It was painfully unfunny.

Looks funny. With a lot of good dry humor.

I watched this already. It was decent. The trailer was excellent, so I was a little disappointed.

I already saw it and like many rom-com trailers, it shows the most funny parts. There is still some good gags left and I liked most of the characters, but overall it was a very predictable movie, like many in its genre.

Saw the movie a few weeks ago. It's okay, nothing to write home about.
