Hobbit chat transcript

05.26.2008

Guillermo Del Toro, Peter Jackson As we mentioned last week, Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro recently held a live chat accepting fan questions regarding their upcoming work on THE HOBBIT and the sequel that bridges the gap between THE HOBBIT and the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, a film they're currently referring to as FILM TWO, and now the good folks at TheOneRing.net have the full chat transcript. Nothing major is revealed, mostly because the films are at a very early stage of production, but we do get an idea of what kinda structure and aesthetic Del Toro plans to bring to the table and how his collaboration with Jackson will be. You also might wanna get comfortable if you plan on reading all of it because it's long. Check it out over HERE.

In related news, Christopher Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien's son, whose involvement Jackson touches on very briefly in the above chat, is trying once again to get production THE HOBBIT and its companion film shut down. This probably won't affect production but it may delay it should this new lawsuit hit on something major. Read the details over HERE.

THE HOBBIT is expected to be released in 2010 with the companion film in 2011.

Extra Tidbit: In the chat, Del Toro alludes to having a part for Ron Perlman. Any guesses? A LOTR, Hellboy crossover, maybe?

I'm with his son on this

As much as I like the Rings, I think it should be left as it is. Here's why:

It's been five years
PJ's not directing
Remember the reaction to the last three star wars.

And on more personal notes:

I didn't like the book.
If I did it still wouldn't top LOTR
Anything this second prequel would be based on was too confussing and hard to follow.

Also I'm at a loss as to anything interesting that could have happened in between The Hobbit and LOTR that could fill another three hour

I GUESS......

....I'll just have to accept the fact that Del Toro is directing this and not Peter Jackson. I agree, Del Toro's got class and style and everything a great director needs but this is my favorite trilogy of all time here, and I'm still not all that comfortable with it being in the hands of anyone other than Jackson. Well, at least he's producing. Here's to hoping!

Dammit, Cigarette Burn beat me to it. Yeah, he'll be Beorn for sure.

Though I could see the Goblin King, too.
