Hold on tight; Joe Gazzam is set to write the Cliffhanger reboot

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's been five years since we last heard the threats of a reboot of CLIFFHANGER, but now the folks at Studio Canal and FAST & FURIOUS producer Neal Moritz are set to move forward with the project. The original, now over 20 years old, starred Sylvester Stallone as a traumatized mountain climber who is forced by thieves to help recover three briefcases carrying $100 million after a botched mid-air heist. It was 90's action at its best, it was glorious; it also went on to make $250 million worldwide so I'm surprised a reboot or sequel didn't happen sooner.

Joe Gazzam has now been hired to write the script after he was among a group of screenwriters who pitched their take for the reboot. I’m very curious to hear what ideas he had that finally set this project in motion again. Moritz has experience in the action-oriented genre with movie like S.W.A.T. and reboots like TOTAL RECALL. I can only hope they put some good stunt people to work and don't deliver us a CG mountainside view of crap.

Do you welcome this reboot or hope its harness breaks and it falls down a deep chasm?
