Hold on to your butts! Jurassic Park 4 has a release date!

Jan. 11, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Let's face it. There was a time when none of us thought we would be getting another JURASSIC PARK. Even the latest installment was on thin ice. Are they going to do it or not? Fans are certainly nostalgic for the film that not only increased the happiness of their childhood, but of their adult lives as well. It's a movie that no matter what age group you share it with, you always get a fan for life.

But after all the waiting, JURASSIC PARK 4 has a release date: June 13, 2014.

Do you know why I am psyched about this? A. IT'S F*CKING JURASSIC PARK. B. Steven Spielberg may not be directing, but he is producing so you know he still has a say. Just so you know, this is high priority for Spielberg.

The last time we took an adventure to the park was 2001 with JURASSIC PARK III. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) turned in their draft of the script this week. At this time, we have no idea what the plot involves aside from dinosaurs and more dinosaurs and maybe Sam Neill or Jeff Goldblum. If they've already announced that either won't have a cameo, don't tell me because I don't have time for that.

For those who want to get a jump start on the excitement, go check out JURASSIC PARK when it re-releases in theaters in 3D on April 5, 2013.

They better make it rated R because all the kids who watched the original are adults now

Cautiously Optimistic...

It has the writers from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, plus Spielberg is producing, so those have to be good signs, right? As long as they stay away from that idiotic idea of having ultra smart robot mercenary dinosaurs carrying semi-automatics, it should be good. HOW good depends if they can capture the same feel that the 1st and best movie had

This is kind of sad because i have a friend that wrote a jurassic park 4 screenplay...and he is not one of those writers mentioned above.

Hah!

I remember seeing the first one at the theater, and the scene after Richard Attenborough says "Welcome to Jurassic Park" (at about 0:58 in the trailer) just blew my mind - it looked like a nature documentary (which I expect was the idea). The sequels never recaptured that real sense of wonder, so I'm afraid I'm a bit dubious.

Can't wait to see the 3D re-release - Jurassic Park is one of those childhood favourites you never let go of. I'm looking forward to the fourth film and I'm confident that Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa have written something great - Rise of the Planet of the Apes surprised everyone with how great it is, and a Jurassic Park film should have many of the same themes. Let's see this happen!

I'm calling it right now. This movie will be shit. Mark my words. You may give me a bunch of thumbs down, but don't start bitching about how terrible the movie is after it is released.

YES

The day has come. I can't believe this is happening. Even if it sucks, I'll be there. I'm so excited, by Odin's Beard.

Samuel Jackson is back

Samuel Jackson didnt die in the first movie, he just lost an arm. And now he's back in the park and looking for revenge.

"I'm sick of these mother-f*ckin' dinosaurs, on this mother-f*uckin' island!"

Make it happen Hollywood

I'm psyched, I didn't think either sequel was as great as the original, but anytime I get to return to the world of JP I know I can expect some great action set pieces and most of all DINOSAURS!!!!

I see Dinosaurs!

Another Jurassic Park? I definitely liked the first one and the second was alright....I think they should have a story for this new movie, that puts a good close to the story.

I certainly approve of the writers due to the fact that they brought such an emotional core to ROTPOTA that I simply did not expect. I mean, John Lithgow and every scene related to his character's medical issues were so powerful and such a smart way to make us care about the characters. If they can achieve that with JP 4, I'll definitely be pleased.

On the other hand, the franchise has pretty much been run into the ground at this point, and Spielberg produced both of the original sequels

On the other hand, the franchise has pretty much been run into the ground at this point, and Spielberg produced both of the original sequels that weren't very good. Plus, we've seen the results of Spielberg picking up and making a sequel to a beloved franchise decades later and the results weren't exactly thrilling.

I mean, I love Jurassic Park but a part of me feels they'll be better off just rebooting the franchise at this point. Like the Batman and Superman franchises, once the well of ideas has run dry, it's probably better to just start fresh than to try to fix all the mistakes of the past

Another negative point is the release date. Next year? A film of this scale and they expect it to be scripted, filmed and have all the special effects and post production finished in under 15 months. That's ridiculous. The project is being rushed and I honestly can't think why. There is no rush. Fans have been waiting over a decade; you can take an extra year.

Either that or they are much further along than they're alluding, which is what I feel about the upcoming Star Wars as well. I think both these films probably already have finished scripts with cast and crew ready to go but for some reason Disney is not releasing that info. That, or Disney is insane and feels they can crank out a Jurassic Park film in about a year and Star Wars in two.

Regardless, I'm definitely on the fence for both projects.

By the way, if there are no animatronics used, there is zero excitement from me. CGI should of course be used for full shots and other shots that are difficult to do practically but if this is just a generic CGI fest, I'll definitely be disappointed. Knowing Spielberg though, he'll keep saying what we all want to hear as far as practical effects are concerned and then give us a horribly shot and cgi infested crapfest. I'm looking at you Crystal Skull.

rebooting? are you serious? The first film was great and the sequels were good, so no need to reboot them. I wanna see all the characters back together again!

I'd watch it.

Love the first one obviously. The second one has it's merits but is a noticeable step down. However I also genuinely love the third as a "WHOOSH CRASH BANG" Dinosaur B-movie action film. It might be short and contain non of the majesty of the original, but that also just means that you don't have to sit through the exposition of the original again and again and can just turn it on for DINOSAUR MAYHEM for an hour and a half.

So yea, I can't hate part III.

Seems like this has been in development hell for a while, and as a big JP fan, I'm glad this finally has a release date!

Yay.

Just don't bring back Vince Vaughn or Juliannne Moore. Also will we be able to finally see someone kill a dinosaur for once? Wishful thinking.

Spielberg should take the reigns

I hope he will, and I'd love to see the cast of all three films involved. Cue the great John Williams theme ... now.

As a self-proclaimed "BIGGEST JP FAN ON EARTH" I am indeed treading lightly. 1 for me was a turning point in my love for cinema. I'm scared, especially seeing what Spielberg has put out lately (in the action adventure department). Let's just hope there are no aliens.

The aliens were Lucas' idea, he wrote Indy 4, if that is what your referring to. So as long as Lucas stays out of it, which he will, I think you have nothing to fear.

Plot Idea

Start: Just after the events of first movie.
BioSyn (company that hired Nedry to steal the embryos) sends in a small group to actually steal the embryos, and to get information on how ingen created the dinosaurs. Easily done (T-Rex is really the only predator left), and everything is taken back to BioSyn headquarters.

At the headquarters biosyn finds out about site B and secretly sets up their own lab on Isla Sorna. They begin creating dinosaurs, but leaving out the lysin deficiency (that's why the thrive so well - Second movie). Over time BioSyn starts creating some new dinosaurs (Spinosaurus wasn't on ingens list - Third movie). Just after the events of the third movie BioSyn's scientists on the island notice a new disease thats going through the dinosaur population (maybe they brought it back with some dino DNA). The disease then starts transmitting to the scientists, and they start to die (BioSyn being the large company doesn't really care and just leaves them there to die).
Fast forward to today and some weird carcasses start washing up on the shore (from the books), and people start getting sick. BioSyn obviously knows what it is and knows that they can get a leg up on the competition in terms of finding a cure if they get information about the disease from the island.
So they decide to send in some people to retrieve the data. Obviously they want people who have been there or are experienced (Dr. Grant, Dr. Malcolm, maybe Roland, etc). By forcing, kidnapping, or blackmailing (you get my point), the heros are forced back onto the island along with some grunts.
The rest of the movie is getting the data, and getting off the island, possibly some old archive videos of the BioSyn scientists findings.
