When the comic version comes to life, Thor's father Odin should be regal and intense, with instantly recognizable authority and visible signs of legendary experiences.

Is there a better choice than Sir Anthony Hopkins?

Kenneth Branagh has cast the screen veteran as the Asgardian king in his big-god feature THOR, giving the project an added level of respectability (in case Natalie Portman as the mortal love interest wasn't enough for you).

The Marvel movie starts shooting in January, with relative newcomers Chris Hemsworth as the Thunder God and Tom Hiddelston as his foster brother and archenemy Loki.

The official THOR synopsis from Marvel Studios: "This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth."

this movie just keeps sounding better and better. only thing im not 100% psyched about is who they cast as Thor, but only because i have never seen him in anything. sucks its so far off though.

What!? I thought they'd already cast Brian Blessed as Odin, who is a man so loud and over the top in everything he does, he is perfect for Odin. What happened, why isn't he Odin anymore?!

This is perfect casting. I just read all the replies, and the only other viable option, in my opinion, was of the director himself, Kenneth Brannagh, but no offense to him, I relate elgeant and authoruive to Hopkins moreso.

Not a fan of Thor, sorry...
While I like the casting thus far, I am not liking Thor unless it's a stand alone movie. To add Thor into The Avengers realm with the other worldly aspects kind of loses its appeal for me. I can handle the "mutant" world, can't it just be kept at that. I'd rather see Wolverine thrown into the mix, hell even Spiderman given the last debancle than Thor. Yes, I know it's all wishful thinking and...

Not that I don't like Hopkins, I think he's great, but I thought they'd already cast this part. Wasn't it announced a few weeks back that Stellan Skarsgård was going to be Odin?

i'm REALLY looking forward to this movie but there hasn't been any word on who is playing Donald Blake(Thor's Mortal self) as he can not be the same person. I mean they look completely different!

I think Brian Blessed is cast in the movie just not as Thor, I would have liked Blessed also but I do agree with Davis, Hopkins is the perfect choice
