Hornet is now green

09.02.2009

We just recently learned that the release of GREEN HORNET slid from next summer to December 2010, but that delay clearly hasn't impacted production, as this new statement demonstrates:

A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen as the vigilante crime-fighter.  Production is underway on the Michel Gondry (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND) helmed film. The screenplay is by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (SUPERBAD), based upon “The Green Hornet” radio series created by George W. Trendle and shoots entirely in Los Angeles.

The press release also confirms the casting of Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos, and Jay Chou as Kato, plus a couple of new names -- David Harbour (REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) and Tom Wilkinson (MICHAEL CLAYTON, BATMAN BEGINS) -- but states that Nic Cage is still "in negotiations" to play the villain, as previously announced.

Extra Tidbit: Considering Rogen's involvement, wouldn't you expect a bit of green leaf in the logo?

So it's official

They're calling it a "Superhero Comedy", which means it's going to suck elephant balls! Too bad, I was kind of hoping they'd do a serious action movie. At this point I wouldn't bother pre-production. Just scrap it and move on.

The problem isn't that he's typecast the problem is he's not a good actor. And he cant even convincing pull off himself which he plays in every movie. So how would he play a character well.

You gotta see "Funny People" then. Rogen completely surprised me in that film. Also, it's just a great film in general.

i feel bad for seth rogen

he's so typecast now. it seems like nobody believes in him. well, let me tell you someone else who was typecast as a stoner comedian and made it as a respected actor: Dame Judi Dench. that's who.

I'm not a big green hornet fan, but why cant they just make a straight up adaptation of it first. And then after that they can go with wacky interpretations of it which involve a fat hairy guy getting high.

I echo numberFIVE's post

Gimme a trailer first, THEN I'll jump in (or not) Tom Wilkinson CERTAINLY helps the cause although.

Seriously...

...if you just replaced Rogen with Clive Owen that would be such a perfect cast.

Seth Rogan! Can't Wait!

I bet somehow they turn Green Hornet into a fat loser that just tries to get laid, and fails, then just gets drunk with his loser college buddies, gets into a wacky adventure, and ends up falling in love with his highschool sweetheart.

My interest in this came and went as quickly as Stephen Chow's involvment, but Gondry is a wild card for me. I loathe 'Eternal Sunshine...' and 'Be Kind, Rewind' had some heart, but I'm really only a fan of his music video work at this point, so until production stills and/or a trailer is released, I'm completely on the fence.
