House Of Cards elects its new showrunners

02.26.2016

There is a new Commander-in-Chief for Season Five of HOUSE OF CARDS... two of them, in fact.

No, Kevin Spacey's Frank Underwood isn't going anywhere, but with Beau Willimon previously announcing that he'd be stepping down from the show, someone else had to be tapped as showrunner. That honor has now been bestowed upon senior writers Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson who will be taking the reigns following this coming season.

Both Pugliese and Gibson joined the popular Netflix series in Season Three, with Pugliese receiving writing credit for episodes 3 and 10, while Gibson got the nod for episodes 6 and 11.

'I welcome Frank and Melissa in their new roles on House of Cards and look forward to collaborating with them and our creative team on season five,' executive producer/star Kevin Spacey said.

Season Four is set to focus on the relationship of Frank and his wife Claire after their separation at the end of Season Three. Last season wasn't as well-received as previous stretches, with the emphasis more on the politics than rise to power. But the show remains a must-watch in Netflix's crop of original programming, so things should be in fine hands with Pugliese and Gibson moving forward unless the show somehow jumps the shark in the meantime.

HOUSE OF CARDS Season Four is scheduled to bow on March 4.

Love House of Cards but personally I would have liked to see the big finish this season. Hopefully it doesn't run out of steam before we get there.

I loved the first two seasons. Season 3 was disappointing and hard to get through. It seams season 4 is just as disappointing as season 3. Hopefully new show runners can make this show interesting again.

@Roy Batty

Sometimes holding onto power, and how you handle that power is more interesting than how you got the power.

Stop!

Unlike "Orange is the New Black" where future seasons are understandable. Frank is now President, what more can we get that doesn't come off as cliche or cheesy? I really wanted Season Four to be the last season.

Season 4 will be the last one, if you stop watching. I on the other hand, am very much looking forward to this season, and hopefully many more!

His fall and possible redemption maybe? I'm sort of with you that there shouldn't be too much more but I'll stop watching when it gets pointless or when they decide to wrap.

I hear you Roy. For me it feels like perfect timing for the final act and instead they may just stretch out the middle until it begins to sag. I reckon it'll all be good but I'd prefer them to trim the fat and make it GREAT!!!

What redemption? He becomes increasingly more and more evil with each season. I just would like to see his fall at the hands of Claire but I feel as if we'll be getting many more seasons because this is Netflix's poster child.
