How The Walking Dead is hoping to keep that big season 7 death under wraps

06.17.2016

The Walking Dead Negan Rick Grimes

If you haven't yet caught up with the sixth season finale of The Walking Dead, look away, for here be spoilers. For the rest of us, there's been but one question on our minds as we settle in for the long wait until the seventh season's October premiere, who the heck was on the receiving end of Lucille?

If you need a refresher, the sixth season came to a close with many of the characters bound and presented to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the charismatic psychopath who Rick Grimes and company had been hearing about all season. Fans were assuming that Negan would make an example out of one of those characters and brutually bash his or her brains in with his barb-wire covered bat affectionately known as Lucille. While that did happen, the identity of which character met his or her maker wasn't revealed, leading to quite a lot of frustration from viewers. The biggest question after the identity of who was killed was how the heck were they hoping to keep it a secret all summer? With set photos and leaks a reality for almost every production, they have to assume that the information will leak at some point, so how are they hoping to keep their big secret under wraps? According to THR, they hoped to circumvent those leaks by filming a death scene for EVERY character present in that line-up.

Those characters include Carl (Chandler Riggs), Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun). Although just one of those characters won't make it past the opening moments of season seven, here's hoping the rest will end up in the bonus features for the season seven Blu-ray/DVD release.

Place your bets, who do you think is pushing up the daises?

I am loyal to the show, yet I am also one of the people who had a problem with this whole cliffhanger thing. I don't have anything against cliffhangers in general, it's just this one was handled rather poorly considering fans had been waiting for this moment and it was cleaved in half, leaving us with half the emotional impact and a final moment that felt right out of the board game "Clue." We know someone's dead, so the only reason to dick around with us concerning their identity is for record

We know someone's dead, so the only reason to dick around with us concerning their identity is for record high season 7 premiere ratings. Now they have to contend with possible lawsuits, multiple fake death scenes, and extra set security. Hope it was worth it because it sounds like a headache.

This whole dog and pony show is ridiculous. If they spent that budget filming good episodes instead of unnecessary spoiler nonsense the show would be a lot better off. Now they're suing fan sites and claiming to film out of order (they aren't) or that they still don't know who it's going to be (they do, or else they couldn't write the whole season).

Really they could have just avoided all of this by filming a proper season finale and not taking a big steaming, gimmicky crap on their devoted

don't understand the cliffhanger hate

to me that scene was about Rick being powerless to stop Negan's. Its also the first time we meet Negan. If they had shown the death it would have taken away from what the scene was about. And when they do show the death, that will in turn have more of an impact as well. As for shooting death scenes for everyone, i don't get how that will hide anything. If theres someoone in set photos only in that scene and not for any others, then you just have to put 2 and 2 together. pointless imo

"Although just one of those characters won't make it past the opening moments of season seven..."

Okay, I guess that's one way to think it happens. I expect the reveal to happen at some point midway through the next season. I won't be watching.

I don't care. Honestly, I've defended the show even when it was a struggle to, I've watched every Sunday. But that cliffhanger was terrible and a slap in the face. I know their claims, but that is simply not good storytelling, it's baiting. That tense moment with Negan is now lost on me, due to frustration and time. I'm sitting out the premier.

The cliffhanger is one thing, I just couldnt stand at least four of the episodes with complete and utter horrible writing.

I only saw the commercial once, but like a week or so after the finale, there was a commercial for the mobile game that had the conclusion to that scene...Who knows though if the person they killed in the mobile game promo is the same as will be dead in the series.

I can see it being like the multi-ending to the movie clue. It'll just be an episode of Rick's group on their knees and Negan killing a specific person then it'll start over, repeating with someone else, doing the same thing until they get through the entire cast. Then it'll pop up with a black screen saying in text, "How it really happened." Then the episode will end.

If I find out who Negan's 'eenie meenie miney mo' choice was..

.. before the season premiere, I'm going to be pissed.

Careful guys, don't put anything that might be seen as spoilers. AMC has actually started looking into to suing sites that do (yup, they actually are)

Lousy Cliffhanger

IDC what anybody really saids that was a low one what they did. I liked how they filmed it but they shouldn't of ended it like that I would of ended it with a EXTREME CLOSEUP of NEGAN'S EYE as you slowly see a glimpse of the mangle body all bashed in and his eye shuts. That would have been way cooler.

I, personally, didn't mind the cliffhanger. I'm a patient fanboy.

Like Coremax also said...Any sneak paparazzi, crew, un-authorized set photo, etc. leak between now & Oct. ...the list of Lucille's *actual* victim would become narrower & easier to pinpoint w/ each character seen alive on the show.

still won't work because we will see what character is missing from the rest of the set photos ,unless they plan on having that actor hang out on set the whole season and stand just out of camera frame

Supposedly they are still paying the person who gets it to appear on set to still keep it under wraps.
