Hugh Jackman compares the scope of X-Men: Days of Future Past to Avatar
The biggest criticism of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST so far has been people worried that director Bryan Singer is trying to cram too much into a single movie. Those concerns were raised by the almost daily announcements of cast-members joining the new superhero movie in addition to the dual casts from FIRST CLASS as well as the original X-MEN trilogy. Once the first trailer dropped, fans calmed a little seeing the likes of James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart sharing the screen, the return of Michael Fassbender as Magneto as well as Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine through it all.
Hugh Jackman has always been one of the most outspoken actors in any superhero movie about the ups and downs of the films he has appeared in and even an advocate for a Disney/Marvel crossover with Fox and Sony so fans can see every hero share the screen. Of course he is going to be a supporter of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and has now shed some idea on just how big this movie is going to be.
In speaking with Empire, Jackman made this comparison:
Bryan has such an incredible brain. This is certainly the biggest movie Fox has made outside of Avatar, so there's pressure from all angles. But he's buzzing, and he's confident. He's gone deeper emotionally, and it's a great ensemble piece.
Knowing that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to lead right into X-MEN: APOCALYPSE should let us know that Bryan Singer is not taking this project lightly. The inclusion of so many characters in roles of various sizes will surely drive home the war element of the storyline as well as lead up to the massive battle we can expect in the next film. Jackman admits where the missteps have been in the X-MEN franchise (ahem, ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) so I trust his judgement here as well.
Jackman also shared this about how Wolverine will be portrayed in the new movie.
"He's a warrior and he can't hide from that anymore, even if the consequences are going to be messy and painful. If there's an era for Wolverine, its the 70s. The hair, the mutton chops, you can smoke cigars everywhere...everything about Wolverine seems more at home in the 70s.
Count me in for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST starring Jackman, McKellen, Stewart, Fassbender, McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy, Peter Dinklage, Rose Byrne, and many more when it hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
