Hugh Jackman confirms that Aronofsky will be directing Wolverine 2

10.19.2010

It's all happening.

Vulture sat down with Hugh Jackman last night and got some details about WOLVERINE 2. Jackman started in by talking about how he's got to bulk up, "Expect to see four chicken breasts and a whole pile of steamed broccoli on my plate. I'm starting; Iím having my six meals a day."

He says that with Darren Aronofsky directing this won't be a "usual" X-MEN movie. Wait...yep. He just confirmed Aronofsky. Bonus. Anyway to continue his comment, "This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. Itís going to be the best one, I hope. Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different." I think we all feel that way.

Jackman went on to talk about how Aronofsky's darker directing style will certainly be reflected in the film, "This is Wolverine. This is not Popeye. Heís kind of dark. But, you know, this is a change of pace. Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, so thatíll give you a good clue. [Aronofskyís] going to make it fantastic. Thereís going to be some meat on the bones. There will be something to think about as you leave the theater, for sure.Ē

Damn this is exciting!

REAL STEEL got brought up as well. He had some small problems with the robots, "There were a few little mishaps, but mainly just me being clumsy and hitting them and knocking things over. I had to pretend like I knew exactly how to run these things and put my hands in the back and figure them out, and, of course, I was pathetic."

Extra Tidbit: Is anyone not into this?

good news... Until Fox does it's FOX again and fuck it... Remember how happy we where when Gavin Hood was hired for the first one and how it was "FOXed" afterward...

I'm glad people are starting to acknowledge his talent. If the studio leaves him alone the movie will be amazing, I'm sure.

Yay!

If they're going with the Miller/Claremont ninja story as has been said, than I think it's going to turn out well with Aronofsky at the helm. Too bad it's still probably going to be PG-13.

I'm not sure if I'm cool with this. They always hire some arty, decent director for these kind of things and the studio always strangles it, crushing every artistic integrity in them. Essentially these guys are hired as expensive set dressers. Look for example at Nimrod Antal's US work, the first Wolverine's Gavin Hood, Oliver Hirschbiegel doing The Invasion Wolfgang Peterson's US work just for a few examples.

We'll see. The studio might let Darren do what he does, but more likely they'll

Maybe we'll finally get the kind of movie we were hoping for the first time, a good one.

Just one thing...

Can we please stop referring to this as Wolverine 2. Can we all just pretend that the first one never even happened and that this will be the true Wolverine movie we all wanted to begin with. We got all we needed out of Wolverine's origin story in X2 so I see no need to refer to that pile of shit ever again. Just a word of warning to Aronofsky: Don't let Rothman and those Fox douches ruin your film. Make sure you get final cut or walk!

That's really cool, but there's one problem.......

Aronofsky is a very good director, but the screenplay might suck, it did in the first one, so therefore Aronofsky's direction of the film might not help...sadly. :(

This combination is pure TNT.. This guy is the best director this sequel can get right now.. If Fox fucks this movie again, even with this A-list director, I hope somebody sue them..or I will..

Aronofsky could be focusing his talents on a good comic character but maybe he'll surprise us. We'll see.

He probably has Fox tied up for another movie after shooting Wolverine...I wonder what got him interested.

While I'm nervous about Fox, this is indeed great news. Hopefully Clint Mansell delivers a great score for Wolverine 2 as well. So we get a Aronofsky directed Wolverine, a Wheldon directed Avengers, and a Nolan directed Batman 3, probably all in 2012. I guess the world can end in 2012 now, because I can't imagine topping that year.

We shall see, after the shitiness of the first Wolverine the only place to go is up. This one takes place in Japan too right? Yeah, I guess that's kinda cool.

I thought the first Wolverine was solid and with Aronofsky directing and with the Samurai storyline, this movie is already going to be better than the first Wolverine. I am more excited about this than Vaughn's First Class movie.

Wow

First Whedon got The Avengers, now Aronofsky making Wolverine! It's a good time for Marvel fans. Not trying to get ahead of myself but this has TDK topping potential.

The X-MEN film franchise is 2 for 2 right now, if Wolverine 2 is as good as Hugh Jackman says it will be then my faith in the X-men films would hve redeemed completely, they still have yet to top X2, but with Afronsky's Wolverine 2 and Vaughn's First class coming up X2 just might become my second favorite X-Film of all time...

Me?......The idea of fully giving the character of Wolverine the story he deserves. Along with Jackman starring? Yes, I am indeed in.

Ummm....me?

I'm not into this. Sue me.

Aronofsky is a great director, but I consider the Wolverine "franchise" to be DNR. Seriously, where the fuck do you go after the abortion of a first film?

Aronofsky has never given me the slightest reason to doubt him; he's a brilliant filmmaker. So yeah, I'm totally down for this. I'm optimistic about Vaughn's X-Men movie as well, he's another guy that I have faith in.
