Hugh Jackman is officially in for X-Men: Days of Future Past, with more mutants still to come

12.19.2012

X-Men: First Class lineup

This was always a bit of a given, but Hugh Jackman has formally and officially joined X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.  The actor has shown up for every movie to date in the capacity of either a cameo or a starring role, and while there's no mention as of yet just how extensive his role will be it can't be denied that he's definitely in.

This information was revealed in a tweet from director Bryan Singer, who followed the news up with the same caveat of "more to come" that we saw with the casting of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. What surely makes Logan a bit unique amongst all of the casting going on, though, is how we'll most likely see Jackman play both the younger and older versions of himself.  Past movies have never shied away from throwing some makeup on the Aussie actor to give him that youthful glow, and I imagine that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be no different.

We'll of course be sure to update you on the full meaning of "more to come" as Singer reveals the information in advance of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST's release date of July 18th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Do you like what Singer's doing insofar as bringing back so many stars and characters from the first three X-MEN movies, or would you have preferred that the universes be kept more separate?

Extra tidbit: I'm glad Singer can round up X-Men movies' actors/actresses. It's a good sign (I hope).

If he isn't the focus, I'm fine with this.

Jackman IS Wolverine

This guy is amazing, he really enjoys the character and it shows. The only reason his stand alone movie failed was the horrible director, effects and portrayal of Deadpool (they took away the mouth of the merc with a mouth...)

First Class was great, but it was always a shame they had to "reboot" due to the fuck up of X-Men: Last Stand/Wolverine: Origins. However if this movie manages to successfully sort out the mess of continuity from this franchise, fix the issues left over from Last Stand, combine the two separate series successfully, have compelling performances and narratives for all the characters AND be a cracking film in it's own right.....well it will have somehow managed to be a bigger achievement than The

Not necessarily a better movie, but a bigger achievement in making all of these separate elements work together well. This, in my mind, is because at least Marvel's movies had a working purpose, continuity and goal in mind before The Avengers, which this series has not..

Hope Famke is next!

I am still skeptic about it, because of the huge storyline and big cast. As much as I love the old movies I hope the old cast (especially Wolverine) doesn't steal away too much screentime from the First Class cast, because I want to see more of Fassbender and co.

Erase "The Last Stand" from movie continuity...it's been done before.

Just create the future story as if X-Men: The Last Stand never happened. (kind of what like Singer did in Superman Returns by ignoring the events of Superman 3 & 4)

In that respect you still have Prof.X, Cyclops & Magneto (w/ his powers) . Of course that leaves Jean Grey still @ the bottom of Alkali Lake, not having manifested the Phoenix powers yet. ...but this kind of shake up in continuity would be a FAARRR more welcome addition than anything that happened in Ratner's abortio.n

possible SPOILERS

I wonder how it will work with THE WOLVERINE, considering it's officially supposed to take place after X3 (therefore in the same continuity) ?!
Also, unfortunately , if the film follows somehow the comics, the story takes place AFTER Jean Grey's (first) death, and the first clue of her resurrection with the first appearance of RACHEL GREY (her daughter)... So NO FAMKE !
