Hugh Jackman wants Wolverine to team up with Spider-Man and The Avengers

07.11.2013

There's no one that seems more passionate about Wolverine than Hugh Jackman. The guy loves the character, and perfectly embodies him in every way. Not only that, but he wants more for Logan. Case in point, when speaking with Collider, Jackman said that he actually spoke with Marvel about a possible crossover with other characters in the Marvel universe:

"I literally asked the same question the other day to Tom from Marvel who works with all the other studios, he works with Sony and Fox, that’s his job to liaise. I said, ‘Man, can this happen?’ and he goes ‘Look, it’s not gonna be easy because you’re working with different studios and they’re their properties.’ But I believe—maybe I’m optimistic, I understand at Marvel they’ve got The Avengers, they’ve got a lot of big things going on, but at some point I just find it almost impossible that there’s not a way to bring Iron Man, all the Avengers characters, Wolverine, the X-Men characters, Spider-Man, and somehow get them in together."

Oh, Wolverine. Yes, we would love these things too. Those of us who have spent our days reading comics and seeing the epic team ups that made our wildest dreams come true. What if we could have that on the big screen? I just don't see it happening.

Jackman continued:

"I don’t see the impediment! I’m like, okay you’ve got three studios, just split it three ways in terms of the cost, and happy days it’s all coming together! I would love to… I’m in for it, I’m totally up for it because I think that would be really exciting for fans across the board."

Yeah, no one is going to place that nice either. Not to mention all the scheduling with the actors and what not. If it does happen, it will be a long time from now.

Um, since we are discussing our dreams, when can we get that Wolverine versus the Hulk movie?

Jackman is a comic fan's dream actor. He genuinely loves the character and cares about what the fans would want to see. He also has the juice to maybe make it happen if anyone can.

I like Jackman's Wolverine, but I kind of have to agree with you. He ain't the original comics incarnation. The closest he may have come was in his First Class cameo. There is a certain grit and nastiness that he lacks.

Jackman is cool peeps.....

i yavent read any of the comments before i wrote this, but i think there might be a way to pull this off. have each studio, fox, sony and marvel make a there one films, but the other two studios lend them their characters. in other words, make a trilogy, each studio making one film with their respective characters. its a far fetched idea, but i think if the studios agree and play nice together, we could have a huge marvel film. it could be call marvel universe, or onslaught or secret wars, i

I love Jackman as Wolverine. He has a clear passion for the character, plays the character perfectly, and respects the source material. Very admirable actor.

However, I for one do NOT want any crossover without a reboot of either the Fox or Sony properties. Marvel has built up their cinematic universe beautifully and I would hate to see it tarnished by connecting it to any of the Spider-man, Fantastic Four, or X-men properties of these other studios. I can rest easy though knowing that

Here's to hoping one day Marvel will own the rights to all their characters and we can see it done properly! Until then, I will (try to) enjoy these movies in their own partitions.

One good way to introduce Wolverine with The Avengers is showing flash backs with him and Captain America fighting the Nazi's. It's all there in the graphic novel, Wolverine Origins. So get a great script writer and have these super hero's fight an enemy that would bring them all together. Possibly Apocalypse??

Don't see this happening until all properties revert back to Marvel. I understand where Hugh is coming from. I can see the possibility of the studios sharing the cost. I also see the possibility of the fight over which studio gets top billing, which studio gets distribution rights, which studio gets their name biggest on the DVD/Blu-Ray packaging...and who ultimately gets to take credit when the box office goes through the roof on that opening weekend.

Hugh Jackman, F-yeah!

Gotta love Hugh Jackman for having that fan-like mentality towards these movies. If only he had complete control over Wolverine, we would have had some of the best comicbook movies by now. The fact that he's humble enough to just admit his interest in doing this without exuding any sort of ego in teaming with other headliners goes a long way to show what kind of a guy Jackman is. Thank you, sir, for being THE Wolverine.

Out of pure curiosity.

Would there be anything against Hugh showing up in a Marvel picture as an unnamed character who bails the main characters out of a situation? Let's say The Avengers are having a massive rumble downtown somewhere, Hugh could come out of a bar into that situation, give a growl and go hurtling himself at the enemy without unleashing his (obviously trademarked) claws before cutting back to the main action.

I mean nobody specifically said "Wolverine" and he didn't show his claws in First Class,

I mean nobody specifically said "Wolverine" and he didn't show his claws in First Class, but we all knew who he was. Let's be fair, anytime I see Hugh in anything I instantly think of Wolverine first, but in this scenario nobody could argue that Hugh was playing anyone other than himself in a strange cameo.

Unfortunately these studios (in this case Fox) not only own the rights to call him Wolverine but also the rights on the likeness. In "First Class" even though he didn't show his claws or get called Wolverine, you still knew it was him. From the hair, to the muttonchops and the attitude. Marvel Studios and (in this case an Avengers appearance) Paramount would still need to get permission from Fox to do so.

Surely the likeness rights only go so far though?

Otherwise anyone making a film with Bruce Willis in could all sue each other.

Dougray Scott...thank you for saying no...back in the day :o)

It's great to dream...but it'll never happen – not withstanding the scheduling conflict with each studio already developing long-term plans for its properties, each studio will want it's property to be the star...and in all honesty, going by the main actors alone...Garfield would lose a three way contest with RDJ and Jackman...and Jackman would probably just lose out to RDJ...and I don't see how Fox or Sony would be happy with that.

I also don't see Marvel messing up their current

I also don't see Marvel messing up their current cinematic universe to make room for the X-Men and Spider-man universes developed by other studios. I'm sure it'll happen one day... just not with the present actors in these roles and when Marvel have regained the rights to all its properties - hopefully in time for phase 1 of the reboot when my son can drive his old man to the cinema and pay for his ticket!

Fox has damaged the characters to much for Marvel to benefit from this, I see this only working if the rights revert back to Marvel.

Hugh seems to have a genuine love for the character. Just watched his second Inside the Actor's Studio interview and he said the impression he wanted to give people when he took his shirt off was akin to how audiences felt when they saw De Niro in Cape Fear, like this guy was not somebody to be messed with. He also apparently didn't know a "wolverine" was a real animal before doing the first X-Men flick.

Hugh Jackman = The Man

That's awesome that this came from Wolverine himself. Yes he's right the fans would have heart attacks over a movie with all these characters, I know I would. Jackman must be a true fan cause I only hear fans talk like that.

Right you are Jackman, those studios are acting like a bunch of mean kids wanting all the toys for themselves. A pretty childish way to handle the superhero business. But even if the suits could overcome their egos and negotiate a solution profitable to all of them, the crossover films would have to be expertly handled less they make a hodgepodge. Spidey might be a more natural fit with some of the Avengers

Seeing Wolverine cross paths with The Avengers would be amazing. Could you imagine the conversation between Wolverine and Tony Stark? Or seeing Wolverine fight the Hulk? Possibilities are endless if they were to actually pull this off.

And didn't Wolverine and Captain America fight in the same war? So those two characters would share that connection.

It's funny how whenever news about expanding the cast for the x-men movie is brought up, people complain that there's too many characters and the movie will suck. But when talks about adding more people to the Avengers is brought up, everyone is for it. Could someone explain the difference to me?

Then just propose a Civil War Trilogy and whoever you need pays to be in and make 50 billion dollars collectively.

maybe in like 15 years?

maybe once the current superhero movie fad finally dies. then this super team up of studios would happen to bring the genre back (of course all characters would be rebooted).
