Hulk Hogan says he wants a part in Expendables 3, and then fibs about the lead in The Wrestler

10.11.2012

Now this is interesting...

Childhood wrestling icon, Hulk Hogan did an interview with Howard Stern as part of his national press tour, which came about because of his recently released sex tape (gross). Well, his camp may not say that, but it's obvious that they are out trying to do some sort of damage control because other than meeting grow-up Hulkamaniacs, why bother?

What of this conversation means anything to us? Well, Hogan says that he wants a role in the third EXPENDABLES film (at 54:00 in the video below), and before that mentions that he originally had the lead in Darren Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER (39:00). The bit about THE WRESTLER is the whammy. Hogan says he turned it down because "Hollywood would have looked at it as a joke", and said that Rourke was a better man for the job. There are several other excuses noted too. He also says he turned down the lead role in THE HIGHLANDER and a role in ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS.

Needless to say, Aronofsky caught wind of the allegations and got on Twitter to bring the truth to the light:

Who is the fibber? Aronofsky or Hogan? Make your own decision, or not. Either way, it's amusing.

I'd much rather see Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jesse Ventura get a shot first.

Really?

Um..
In Expendables 3?
As the bad guy with his head shaved?
(cracking up)
[link]! Sorry I just can't picture that or any role for that matter. If that happens then Lionsgate will finally get the PG-13 (or G-Rating) they so wanted.

I still love Suburban Commando, though.

Well neither is being honest because as someone else pointed out Nic Cage was originally cast as The Wrestler so no it wasnt always Rourke. I also dont believe Hogan because hes always been full of shit.

That would be cool! I'd like to see him in Expendables 3. Guess we'll see.

The role was originally written for Rourke, but they had trouble getting financing with him in the lead role. So they offered it to Cage, more bankable. He did some research for the role, but ultimately thought Rourke was better for it, so it went back to Rourke...and they eventually got financing. Nice try Hogan.

Hogan's a sell out he just wants to do anything he knows that will be pay day. Hogan needs to just retire every word he says and everything he does just makes things worse for him.

You know who'd be great for Expendables 3, maybe more than Hogan? Jesse Ventura. They could make the whole plot revolve around a crazy conspiracy theory!

I don't know who to believe. Arronofsky's statement isn't entirely true either, being that other actors were in fact attached - including Mr. Nicolas Cage.

Story was, Nic Cage's attachment was because Aronofsky was afraid Rourke wouldn't be a big enough name. He always wanted Rourke for it though.

First of all, Hulk Hogan is a notorious truth-bender. Pretty much anything he says has to be taken with a grain of salt. Secondly, I had actually once heard from a non-Hogan source that he was up for (or at least considered for) the role of Little John in Men In Tights. And as far as Aronofsky's claim that Rourke was the "original" wrestler... are we forgetting that Nicolas Cage was originally cast? I saw him at a RIng Of Honor show in Manhattan researching the role, for goodness sake.
