William Hurt Bad ass character actor William Hurt has joined the cast of the upcoming Ridley Scott directed re-envisioning of the Robin Hood legend. Russell Crowe will, of course, be playing the infamous archer who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor with Cate Blanchett playing Robin's main squeeze Maid Marian. In it, Hurt will be playing the Earl of Pembroke, a real life historical figure who was a servant to the Plantagenet kings and one of the sickest jousters ever. Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle are also on board as Robin's Merry Men. The film is currently in production in the UK from a script by MYSTIC RIVER scribe Brian Helgeland. Hurt can next be seen in the period piece THE COUNTESS and on the small screen alongside Glenn Close in the legal drama "Damages".

Extra Tidbit: Hurt turned down leads in both JURASSIC PARK and MISERY.

I'm glad that they abandoned the reversal angle and decided to go with a more classic telling. We don't need more a$$holes... we need more heroes. And I'm sick and tired of the nihilistic crap that the studios seem to churn out. Let's have a few heroes again!

Im seeing this one, Cate Blanchett as Marion and William Hurt in it also. I was interested in it when it was going to be the different point of view and was disappointed that they werent doing that but as long as Ridley Scott is directing this itll still be worth it. Maybe this one will still have a bit of a twist, maybe darker than other Robin Hood adaptations.

That looks like the face of a man who turned down the lead role in Jurassic Park.

Nottingham?

Wasn't this called "Nottingham" and to be from the point of view of the Sheriff of Nottingham? Where Robin Hood was the outlaw etc? I'm pretty sure that's what this is.

BojacRedleif - is this change what you're referring to?

great cast with great potential. Ridley Scott doing a Robin Hood film sounds epic and awesome, though i too was a bit more interested when it was from the 'other' point of view, even when they thought of doing it with Crowe playing both characters.
