I Spit on Your Trailer!

Aug. 7, 2010by:

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE recently screened at the Fantasia International Film Festival, and our own Chris Bumbray reviewed it for our heathen siblings over at Arrow in the Head. He enjoyed it, and the word I've generally been hearing is that the remake does its best to be respectful to the 1978 original, never shying away from the brutal and the shocking.

And certainly, hints of those exploitative extremes can be found peppered throughout the film's latest trailer. Do you dig? Or are you still on the fence? Catch the trailer below or head on over to Yahoo! Movies to see it in HD, and judge for yourself.

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE violates you October 8th.

Synopsis: Writer Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler) takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer's presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn't about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer's sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse.

Extra Tidbit: Film critic Roger Ebert has often called the 1978 original one of the worst films ever made.

Wow

it's a real relief to see how many of you are sick of this kind of brutal, exploitive garbage. I only hope mass audiences share the sentiment.

I may check it out. Just cause it would be fun to walk up to the ticket booth and say "I Spit On Your Grave, please."

I agree with DarkElfa & Terminal_83. There's nothing more frightening than people that get into torture movies like the SAW franchise and crap like this. If there's actually some substance and depth to the story, that would help. But this just breeds sickos all over the world.

Well, I'm not sure if it breeds sickos, but it sure pulls em out of the wood work and shows just how many their are. I never heaped Saw in with this kind of thing though as Saw is just silly crap in my mind. This on the other hand goes hand in hand with crap like Hostel. The large audience that genres like this command go far in their ability to show just how many would tune into a real life running man show if it ever hit TV or perhaps even live executions. Far flung? Maybe, maybe

People are becoming more and more desensitized to extreme violence and acts of sheer inhuman torture every day and with that sensitivity goes any shame that we had. Moral quandaries aside, we as a society need our shame to keep us from becoming the kinds of monsters we see in these films.

Giving this film a studio gloss takes it out of the low budget grindhouse, and, lets face, the original wouldn't have worked at all without that vibe.

It's always a mistake to have the forced advertising be for something I really want to see. This article may as well have been about "The Disappearance of Alice Creed."

I'm sick of torture porn. Hollywood just doesn't get its viewing audience at all. They keep on trying to shock us with heavier and harder crap but all its really doing is just making it normal and main stream to have horrific scenes of violence in films. Don't get me wrong, I like horror and some good gore, but stuff like this just makes me feel like some sick fuck who gets their kicks off of brutal torture.

Hollywood just doesn't get its viewing audience? Are you sure? Their are 6 Saw films... all of which were profitable.

For every mildly profitable "good" film there are five $700 million dollar making 'Transformers 2' films.

Hollywood knows exactly what it's doing.

I totally agree with you. This is just one of the reasons that people are too desensitized. That, to me, is scary!

Looks like fun.

I gotta' admit, I like movies where the actual focus isn't the victims getting out of a lethal situation, but rather the bloody revenge they desire thereafter. I mean how many times have you watched a movie like Devil's Rejects and wondered how cool it would be if someone would step-up and turn the tables on the 'Rejects'. Maybe it's a weird thing to like, but it's pretty fun to watch. Looks like this chick is gonna' kick a lotta' ass and cut off a bunch of nutsacks. Count me in!

Despite it not looking terrible I still refuse to go see any remake. Especially remakes of Horror movies because we seem to get more of those than anything else. The sooner we all stop paying to see them, the sooner they'll stop remaking them.
