Crystal Skull Finally Won Me Over

I am proud to name INDIANA JONES and the KINGDOM of the CRYSTAL SKULL as my favorite movie of the summer. Like a song that grows upon you the more you listen, revealing cool riffs and subtleties you didn't catch the first time around, Indy 4, which I trashed upon first viewing, is just as good as the other sequels- and just like the other sequels, it's quality stems from how different it is from any other installments. I guess the first time I saw it, I carried too many preconceived ideas of where I thought the story would go. Judged on it's own merits and sensibilities, Indy 4 is a fun, well-told adventure that once again puts all knock-offs and copycats in their place. I hope we get a 5th adventure. Mr. Spielberg, Mr. Lucas, I owe you both an apology for my earlier criticisms. You successfully returned Indy to the big screen!

Thank You Fuzzyfoot

It seems like most people went to this movie just so they could bitch about it. Did people really expect them not to use CGI? Complainers...Lucas and Speilberg both crap out your best ideas after they drink their coffee in the morning.

I hope you understand that there can be more than just one type of "true fan" for Indiana Jones. Not everyone has to love Indy 4 to be considered a fan.

You seem to want to continue to spout the retoric of "either your with us or against us." You are one of those people who would blindly love any film in a series if you loved the first one.

I am not one of those of types of people. I have an opinion on the movie and calling me an idiot is insulting. "True Fans" of Indy would accept

I, for one, think that Crusade was the best one. Not everyone believes that, so be it. I am glad that you loved Indy 4, but not everyone does. Get over it. Besides, you sound like a 10-year-old who won't stop until they get their way.

no. fucking. way. is this being added to my collection

I loved the original Indiana Jones movies, but fuck this fourth movie and fuck the DVD. Even the Lucas whores who liked Indy 4 can't post without mentioning the "mediocre bullshit" moments in it. What does that say?

read and learn

Alright, I got to get this off my chest.

You “True Fans” out there that hated Indy 4 are just plain idiots. I truly am a fan of Indiana Jones and greatly loved Indy 4.

Now let us take all your problems with the film and figure out why you are dead wrong in your statements.

CGI Gerbils:
Who cares? These are not the point of the movie are just there for fun. That’s like saying the Wampas on Empire are stupid. There just there for fun.

Monkey vines:
I can’t really tell you why

CGI Gerbils:
Who cares? These are not the point of the movie are just there for fun. That’s like saying the Wampas on Empire are stupid. There just there for fun.

Monkey vines:
I can’t really tell you why Shia had to get caught up in the vines, but it happened. So now with the cars driving away at 50+ mph should I sit there, drop down and try to run after them, or swing on vines to get there faster…hmmm. It is logical for him to be swinging and if you want my opinion, maybe they did that to show how Indy’s son is just like him whip wise.

CGI Ants:
Ok, you control 2 billion ants, get them to go exactly where you want to and stand on, but not bite the actors.

CGI in general:
Did you watch Raiders? How about the scene during the Truck Chase when Indy knocks one of the cars off the cliff and all we see is A MATTE PAINTING THAT IS COMPLETELY FAKE. Or, how about in Crusade where a fucking toy tank rolls over on the ground after falling off a cliff. And don’t even get me started on Doom with the gators below the rope bridge, so fake it’s ridiculous.
Also, Lucas and Spielberg invented all the technology we see in movies today. ILM, THX, Skywalker Sound are all built by Lucas. If anyone has the RIGHT to add CGI to their movies, it’s these guys.

Marion’s character is pointless:
Again we turn to Crusade. Sallah only shows up after an hour and does nothing but momentary help…just like Marion.

Nuke the fridge:
How is jumping out of plane on a life boat, which would explode on impact from that height, riding through snow and river and magically ending up in the heated lands of India any more believable?

Mutt is pointless:
Short Round is too. They are sidekicks, what more do you want?

Aliens!!!:
Now we come to the big issue. The duo love aliens, that is a given, but as it turns out, that has nothing to do with why they are in the movie. Let’s break this down problem and answer.

After 19 years…aliens… so unbelievable.
Really? So angelic beings coming out of the ark, ripping your hand through skin, muscle, and bone for a heart, and a cup that disintegrates bullets aren’t complete fabrications also? Honestly, aliens are a more believable thing than God is. Do you trust that we aren’t alone or faith in something that you have no idea if it even exists?

Why have them in the movie at all?
The first 3 films took place in the 30’s and were based off movies and TV serials of that decade. In a post depression time, people were looking up for help, thus heaven and hell were a perfect fit for the first 3. 4 takes place in 1957. In a post 1947 Roswell world, everyone was talking about aliens. The War of the Worlds, the Day the Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, Lost in Space, all came out in the 1950’s. Aliens are a perfect fit for Indy 4.

Hopefully this helps people with their second viewing. I just think that if you ARE a true fan, you would actually know these things.

The $8.50 they got from me at the theater is all they'll be getting.

I'd be okay with a sequel, but please use 99% less CGI.

One More Thing

One more thing. You listening Lucas?
You want to know why The Dark Knight is so successful? (Aside from the great writing, directing and acting) it's because there was LITTLE TO NO CGI!!!
Monkeys? Groundhogs with personalities? What the hell were you people thinking? In Raiders we felt ever bump and bruise, in this one all I kept thinking was "wow, big fake cgi ants that aren't there"
STOP WITH THE FREAKING CGI

Anyone who likes this movie is fooling themselves. C'mon, admit it. It was horrible. Take Harrison Ford out of this movie and the Mummy 3 is better. Honestly.
This is coming from someone who grew up as Indy as his hero... Indy and Luke Skywalker....both of which George Lucas has now killed.

I had mixed feelings about this movie, and I think a second viewing will determine my ultimate opinion of the film. Although there were a few parts I could do without, I found there was a lot more to like about this movie than dislike.

OKCracker commentary

Thank you. I wholeheartedly agree. You can either be a whore to a series and love it just because you claim to be "a fan" or you can be a fan and see things for what they are. And if Indy 4 was really as spectacular as some people say, it wouldn't have such 50/50 reviews. I base everything off of RAIDERS, still my favorite movie of all time. But regardless, nostalgia can only go so far... a bad script, poor character development, iffy acting, and over-the-top CGI are too much. Indy was

Indy was always great because he could never quite achieve what he needed to do. In this, he escapes an atom bomb in a fridge and his spawn can flawlessly swing from vines. Spielberg would have laughed this off the page during the RAIDERS sessions. INDY 5? I'm torn.......

I get sick and tired...

of being called a "loser" and "close minded" and not a true "fan" just because I didn't like Indy 4.

True "fans" know when they're being shit on by George Lucas and company. I don't see how people can be so narrow minded. It is possible to be a huge Indy fan and to also have been disappointed by this movie.

I for one won't be buying this DVD. If they have plans for a 5th installment, I'll want to wait until they are done with the series and buy everything all at once. Plus, I have a

E. fn T.

i will buy it only because its Indy and it did have some entertaining moments.
but there were somethings in that movie that were just dumb. as mentioned the vine swinging. the one liners. they tried to be to funny and it was unnatural. Indy's character in this one wasnt as cool. a little clumsy at times. and the one that really bothered me was, please Lucas and Speilburg, we get it, you love aliens, but i dont want to see Indiana freakin Jones meets E.T. what the hell was that all about? 15

I didnt think this would get a blu-ray, considering the movie was shot with film and not digital, so it probably woulnt be that impressive, but whatever. Im going to still buy it, its loaded with some nice special features.

As for the haters, there just close minded, because they cant get past all the mediocre bullshit. The movie was entertaining, get over it losers. Sure it wasnt near as good as the orignals, but it sure wasnt no Star Wars episode 1.

True fans ate this right up - I was one of them.

HEY!!!!!!!!

It should be noted that like 90% of the features on the Blu-Ray disc are in HD... I think that's pretty cool.

AND

They announced a box set or all 4 Indiana Jones films, Crystal Skull included, so you might wanna pre-order that instead. :)

Let the 80s rest in peace

"Live Free or Die Hard"

"Rambo"

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"

All pale imitations of their predecessors and prove the adage "you can't go home again."

Only "Rocky Balboa" managed to stay relevant and entertaining.

Odds are they might package Indy 4 along with the other 3 in one big blu-ray box set when they release all 4 in blu-ray individually as well.

Can't wait to watch Indy in Blu!

Thats a nice DVD there...but where is the commentary? Ughh...I knew there probably wasn't gonna be a Speilberg & Lucas commentary, but I was really hoping to hear one from the cast and maybe just lucas. Im sure this will look fantastic on Blu-Ray..and I'm not gonna deny I did enjoy this film in the theaters and some people are being a bit too harsh on it. Maybe the dvd release will change some opinions.

Its only a matter of time before the inevitable box set comes out, I'm just really

yes!!!

If that truly is the DVD case then it will fit nicely next to my second editions, meaning I have the original 2003 dvds and the 2008 ones.

Also, I don't get the hate either, this is the same shit that came up when Die Hard 4 came out, people hated it for stupid reasons and after it came out on dvd they all shut up about it.

seriously though, i think most of you had WAY WAY WAY to high expectations for Indiana Jones 4 and if you e-mail your reasons for hating the movie I will tell that not

Before you do though let me answer one of them right here.

Q: Gerbils...really?

A: You know your right, the entire point of Indiana Jones 4 was the gerbils at the beginning of the film. They basically scream terrible filmmaking and I should have given Steven the bird and walked out right then and there. God, shut up about the gerbils, WHO CARES, they're gerbils. I guess in your mind the eyeball soup or eating bug shit our of their own asses is just THAT MUCH BETTER than the gerbils.

Ok, next question.
