International trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man schwings its way online

3 years agoby:

A new international trailer has swung online for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and if you can read French then bonus for you! It features a few interesting snippets that weren't in the U.S. version, but nothing game changing.

Check out the subtitled web-fest below:

Go ahead and throw shit at me, but this does not stir much excitement for me. It looks better than the initial stuff we got, but there's just something about this reboot that doesn't rev my engine. I know lots of peeps are excited, especially after the new trailer released last week and that's cool. For me, though, it just does nothing.

Now that I've said that, I'll probably catch it anyways and love it. Funny how that works sometimes, isn't it?

Andrew Garfield makes a good Peter Parker/Spider-Man, perhaps better than Tobey Maguire, and Emma Stone is a beautiful and talented actress, so the film has those things going for it. On that note, though, with Emma Stone being a natural redhead and beautiful to boot, she seems a perfect fit for Mary Jane. It feels like a tremendous missed opportunity to me. She's ripped right out of a J. Scott Campbell drawing (see comparison below).

According to our poll last week, the majority of you want to see a proper Venom in the villain role, followed by Carnage and Mysterio, with Kraven bringing up the ranks. I tend to agree. In many ways, I hope THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is a big success so that they can move forward into some possibly edgier material.

I've said enough.  Enjoy the trailer and check out the lizard toys we featured yesterday to get a better peek at what to anticipate. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN opens on July 3rd, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: Seems to be a nice bout of controversy over The Lizard's appearance (as if we didn't see THAT coming). Do you prefer The Lizard with or without lab coat? Snout or no snout? Beret or no beret?

By the way,

The subtitles are in French and Dutch and what they say is pretty much the dialogue you hear.

"for fanboys and fangirls, it's a lukewarm burrito". That comment won me over, Shirey. Very amusing diction.

I really love those people who say that the Lizard looks stupid without the lab coat. Yeah, of course, WITHOUT a lab coat, a half-lizard/half-man creature does look silly...

The point being that he is NOT THE LIZARD from the comics. He is just a lizard man. The lab coat is there to say that some of his true self is still present in the monster, and it identifies him as Curt Connors.

J-man, I understand what you are saying, but I still think that in a movie, it would look ridiculus (like imagine Wolverine in his signature yellow suit). Some parts of the comics must be changed when they tranfer them to the big screen. And if the director is smart enough, he can show the resemblance between The Lizard and Connors by a gesture, a look, something cinematic that comics would never be able to do.

I see what you are saying, but for some characters it's part of their iconic look. For example, Batman must have - Cape, Cowl, Symbol. Being gray and blue, or gray and black, or all black, is up to the director. Wolverine must have, claws, signiture hair, etc.

The reason all fans aren't embracing this film is b/c we were expecting Spiderman 4. This isn't a series that had been dead for several years. Raimi and Sony were in talks to do Spiderman 4, but due to some of the same "creative differences" that affected Spiderman 3, they parted ways. So instead we get the origin sotry again. I think the movie will be good, but most elements (Lizard, Peter's parents) could have easily been done in Spiderman 4 instead of a reboot.

I like how Spiderman is only swinging around at night and how he sneaks up on car thieves in the back seat and how there is this pointless mystery about his father and how lizard looks like a goomba from the Super Mario movie.
This is Spiderman in name only. I want to see Spiderman being a funny wisecracking guy who swings around IN THE FUCKING DAY TIME SO I CAN SEE HIM CLEARLY, and fighting villains. This movie is more like Batman than Spiderman.
PS If Spidey only goes around at night,

Emma is hot though, I'll give them that.

I understand how many people arent getting pumped over this movie from the trailers. I mean, the Sam Raimi flicks did spidey justice in their own way. So of course the majority of people are just going to discredit the new movie with "here we go again" type of mentality. I'm willing to give it a chance simply because Spidey is my favorite comic character and so far, so good.

I have to agree, having Stone cast as Gwen really is a missed opportunity. That said, the movie looks good and I'll of course be seeing it.
Also, McFarlane's Lizard is fucking awesome.

Ooh look!.. Another subway scene, just like in Spider Man 2. And he doesn't have his mask on, yet again in the subway. No worries, I'm sure this falls under "the untold story."

LoL.. What?.. You're the one who came up with this whole biblical reference thing.

Moses wrote the bible (the first parts of The Old Testament). Hence, if this new spidey movie sucks, then it will seem like Raimi's vision was "the Spider-Man Bible." i.e. Raimi being Moses.

Hopefully they get Venom right!

I suppose the most optimistic I can be about this film is that it does have a good cast/crew, and hopefully now they'll be able to nail Venom in future sequel(s). But I'm still iffy on this one - even if it's good, which it probably will be, I'm not sure they're going about all of it the right way. Just seems too soon for a full origin reboot -- they should have gone by way of The Incredible Hulk and restarted the franchise while still continuing the story, taking for granted that the audience

I think even non-fans by now know how Peter Parker became Spider-Man, and adding in "The Story Begins" or whatever to the trailer is no small coincidence from a marketing standpoint. People can say all they want that issues surrounding Parker's parents existed in certain comics but the general, non-fan perception of Peter Parker has nothing to do with a mystery surrounding his parents' death, and in that sense - coupled with the ostensibly darker cinematography and night-time setting of both trailers (not many day-time shots!) - you can bet they're going the Batman Begins route with this.

Run on sentences, various other grammatical errors, a complete uninformed error regarding Emma Stone's hair color, and the insertion of an opinion no one asked for. Another winner.

Not really talking about Paul specifically by it seems like people are actively trying to root against this movie just because it's a remake.
It's known (on movie sites at least) that they had to reboot or lose the rights to Marvel, and it sounds like they've taken everything the fans wanted (no more camp, Maguire/Dunst gone, a more smart-ass Spidey, Doc Conners storyline, web shooters, etc) and people STILL complain. To me it seems like the studio did everything right, despite having to make

I feel you, izzy. The problem wasn't that they had to reboot, they just had to make another film, be it with Raimi and the old crew or someone else. The reboot was the studio's choice.

I'm not a huge Spidey fan, but I do like the character. I think this film looks decent and, at the very least, well made, but I feel like I've already seen it before. The studio really wants to drum up excitement by including Peter's parents, but...well, it's just not that exciting.

I think the fans are well-versed enough on Spider-Man's origin and are hungry for more substantial storylines and characters. Most people off the street can tell you how Peter Parker became Spider-Man. It's a no-brainer at this point.

I hope I'm surprised by a great film, but I doubt I will be. However, stranger things have happened. Like the time I ordered a Diet Coke and got a Cherry Coke instead.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Right, I meant that if the studio wasn't going with Raimi, THEN they had to reboot. And I agree that his origin story is totally overdone and not really that exciting, but they kind of have to start there (otherwise audiences wouldn't even realize it was a reboot as much as a recasting of Maguire for Spider-Man 4).
I feel like they're doing as much as they can to give a different story, with a new villain, a new love interest, etc. I just think the studio was put in a precarious situation of

I feel like they're doing as much as they can to give a different story, with a new villain, a new love interest, etc. I just think the studio was put in a precarious situation of either making a reboot way too soon or to make a movie with Raimi they didn't believe in. And considering Spidey is by far the studio's prize egg, I'm glad they make the unpopular decision in order to (at least in their minds) do it right rather then sit back and watch something that clearly wasn't really working anymore.

I agree completely that the studio was/is in a tough spot to make this a success. Obviously, it's impossible to please everyone all the time. I think they made the right call for a broader audience, but for fanboys and fangirls, it's a lukewarm burrito.

Fingers crossed that they pull it off. In the end, none of us gain anything from a bad movie.

Natural Red Head?

LOL! Emma Stone is actually a Blondie, but she looks really natural with her fake red hair. I grew up with snout-face lizard so I'm more into Mcfarlane's look. Oh well, I'll wait till I see the actual movie and give my final judgement of the lizard's look.
