International trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with Jennifer Lawrence brings the heat

Aug. 9, 2013by:

Okay, don't take that headline literally. This is really just a leaner cut of the first full trailer, but that doesn't mean it's not cool. Of course, opinions vary on that, as THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, the second part of the movie quadrilogy of THE HUNGER GAMES, is a mixed bag for many nonfans of the books. Directed by Francis Lawrence (I AM LEGEND), the sequel picks up where the original left off as the politics pick up in a big way, putting our heroine, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) back into the games she just emerged victorious from. Overall, this looks like a much more visually stylistic and bigger-in-scope film than its predecessor, with a larger cast, larger canvas, and larger stakes.

Get hungry for the games!:

Here's the synopsis:

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.

Some are predicting that this will be the biggest money maker of the year and I'm inclined to agree. Never underestimate the TWILIGHT crowd and with that throne left empty (thank the stars!), it's basically THE HUNGER GAMES' to lose. With Jennifer Lawrence riding high on her Oscar win for SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and the rapidly growing fanbase for the franchise, I see some major domination on the horizon for this one.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Sam Clafin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, and Alan Ritchson, continues the love triangle of death marathon on November 22, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Has your interest grown for this franchise since the first film came out or has it dwindled?

I am just glad Ross is out. Maybe Francis won't ruin the movie with a half hour of dizzying shaky cam work. overall the first Hunger Games movie was good besides the nausea inducing camera work.

Blech

So its a rehash of the first film all over again, it wasn't good enough to see in theater or even pay for last round not going to this round. And that cheesy my clothes are on fire effect just wants to make me gag in between bouts of laughter of course. Sigh.

To be fair, the 2nd BOOK is a rehash of the first book...in a craaaaaaazy twist, they pull all tributes from the existing pool of victors. Cuz, you know, EVERY district has at least one living male and one living female victor (i.e. 24 victors). Suuuuure....the odds of that aren't astronomical.

Anyway, the 2nd book sucked, but don't fret. The 3rd book sucked so bad it'll make the 2nd book look like the first book :) Oh wait...

For all the social implications (my cup of tea) put forth in the first movie and apparently continued in this one I just can't get over how boring and stupid the first one was and this one looks to be. That guy, well both guys from the first are awful in every way. No fan of Lawrence either. Seems like there was potential here for something more but I haven't/won't read the books to find out.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the film. It looked like they had budget constraints, but the tone, the acting and the story did feel solid enough. Looking forward to this one.

I liked the books

although MOCKINGJAY was a let down (I suspect a too-tight deadline). I'm looking forward to this movie, and JLaw is excellent as Katniss. I like Philip Seymour Hoffman's take on his character; that looks fun.
