Interview: Christian Bale, Terry George and More discuss The Promise!

04.18.2017

THE PROMISE is the latest feature from filmmaker Terry George (IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, HOTEL RWANDA), and it’s an important one. Telling the story of a love triangle set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire. It is a part of history rarely explored in feature films, one that should be seen by those unaware of this period. The film features the incredible Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon as well as the legendary James Cromwell. This is an impressive cast and what a powerful tale they are delivering.

Recently, at the junket for the new film, Christian Bale discussed why he took on the role. He also opened up about playing a journalist trying to tell the world about what was going on. For the actor, it was a way to explain how journalists can make a difference and bring light to such things. It was an terrific conversation and of course, the actor is stellar opposite Isaac - his performance is just fantastic.

It is safe to say that James Cromwell may be one of the most talented working actors today. Sitting across from he and co-star Shohreh Aghdashloo was an enlightening experience. The two discussed working in the film, the current state of things and more. Cromwell has always been a favorite of mine, and he and Aghdashloo give two of the best performances in the film.

One of the most exciting things for me during this particular junket was the chance to talk to one of my favoite musicians. The great Chris Cornell was on hand discussing the original song written for the film, "The Promise." Cornell discussed his own involvment and writing the song for the film. He also opened up about what it means to him and his own personal connection to this story through his family and friends. The musician is incredibly intellient, thoughful and needless to say, an amazing artist.

And finally, we sat down with Le Bon and Angela Sarafyan as well as Mr. Terry George himself. The filmmaker talked about taking on this project, and the very unusual way it was made. He also talked about the struggle to make it. Both Le Bon and Sarafyan were lovely - each giving beautiful performances in the film - and they two opened up about the reasons taking on such a story, which is quite personal for Angela. Mr. George has crafted a film that should be discussed and if you’d like to check it out, THE PROMISE opens this Friday - hopefully at a theatre near you.
