Interview: This Means War Director McG!

02.15.2012

McG has become a major presence in Hollywood. Love him or hate him, he has found major success in television with shows like “Supernatural”, “Chuck”, “Nikita” and more. He has also made a few box office hits including CHARLIE’S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE and TERMINATOR: SALVATION. His latest is a rom-com meets action flick called THIS MEANS WAR starring Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine… and it is one hell of an entertaining movie.

When I sat down with him and he asked what my favorite movie was of last year - forgive me as I still have the phenomenal THE GREY on my mind (I do realize that it came out this year) – I immediately dug the guy. After some cool flicks talk, we jumped into THIS MEANS WAR. While I appreciate some of the television shows he has been a part of, his films have not always blown me away. Yet his energy and excitement for cinema is addictive. It is hard not to have faith in the guy especially since he is giving audiences a damned entertaining Valentine’s Day flick that is good for both guys and gals. Check out THIS MEANS WAR this coming Tuesday on Valentine’s Day at a theatre near you.

“ It’s the privilege of the audience, most particularly your audience to say I f*cking hate McG movies…”

I'd have to agree with Silverload

Comes across as a salesman. He immediately realizes JoBlo is a 'fanboy' website and starts rambling about how his film is an ode to the joy of cinema...gimme a break! I dunno, none of it feels genuine - when I watch this I feel like I'm being played by a sleazy con-man, someone good at sweet-talking his way into gigs but can't really deliver. And based on his track record thus far that's an accurate assessment.

This guy is such a douchebag.

Remember back when Terminator Salvation came out and McG gave us this long story about how he flew to New Zealand, and visited the set of Avatar, and had a long conversation with James Cameron about Terminator? He even described certain enthusiastic looks that Cameron gave him. Said that Cameron loved the story so much that he gave his blessing. Yet when Cameron was asked about McG's visit, Cameron said that he never even met McG, that he once received a phone call from some producer asking if
