Intriguing team-up: Eminem and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter

It’s sort of surprising to think that, despite a successful decade-long music career, Eminem has only starred in a single feature film as other major rappers continually make the crossover (or desperately try). That seems about to change, as Marshall Mathers is getting his knuckles ready to meet some skull.

Mathers is reportedly getting in the ring with “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter for a boxing drama called SOUTHPAW. The 8 MILE star would play “a fast-rising welterweight boxer who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to tragedy. The movie is about his fight to reclaim past glory.”

Deadline says that Sutter (who also wrote for “The Shield” and took an early crack at a PUNISHER sequel) has wanted to work with the hip-hop star for years but they sparked on this tale, a spiritual sequel to 8 MILE. As Sutter proclaims, it’s “a metaphorical narrative of the second chapter of his life. He’ll play a world champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom, and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy.”

Sutter will write the script for the Dreamworks project before getting the guys back on the road for the fourth “Sons” season.
