Iron Man 2 begins

08.21.2008

Jon Favreau has let it be known that production on his sequel to IRON MAN has begun. He tells the LA Times that:

"We're working on it now... which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."

Well that's a relief, huh? After all that noise about him maybe not coming back I was starting to develop a rash I think. I really, really care, you see. Or at least that's what I tell chicks I meet in comic stores. You'd think that having an unsightly skin ailment would halt my womanizing but eat shit, doubters!

They better not have a retarded villain like Fin Fang Foom. And I hope the Mandarin is still only referenced in that "Ten Rings Society" thing. I have a feeling he'd work better in comics than on screen.

How about Extremis. I didn't really like the story in the book that much, but I think these guys could adapt it well on screen. The whole biology vs. technology thing was very cool. The good thing about this is you could have multiple extremis villains, which would be a good time to bring

The good thing about this is you could have multiple extremis villains, which would be a good time to bring out War Machine. Plus, Stark would be able to upgrade his armor to where it attaches itself to his body, with that undersuit growing out of his skin.

But what I'd REALLY like to see is Iron Man in SPACE!

Mandarin

Just a thought on the Mandarin: in the first movie Tony Stark was captured by an Al-Qaida like terrorist group calling itself the "Ten Rings." The Mandarin happens to wear ten rings, one on each finger with a different power. I sort of assumed that this terrorist group and particularly its leader was loosely based on the Mandarin, just modified for the purpose of the movie, in the same way Afghanistan was substituted for Vietnam. Otherwise why not use a more "terrorist" sounding name for the group ("something, something jihad"), or just go with a real group, like Al-Qaida? I doubt their lawyers would make a fuss.

first off, CANNOT wait for Iron Man 2, saw the first one three times in theaters and the dark knight twice and I think Iron Man is much more watchable, although I love both. But yeah United Visions is a douche, and here's why, you came off sounding like an uppity asshole, the American Box office is emphasized around here for two reasons, we're in America (at least I and probably the majority of the patrons for this site are) and two, it makes up a huge percentage of all box office. Take out America and the box office for all films drops SIGNIFICANTLY, not to mention most films are made here (although I love foreign and independant films, the studios suck but it is what it is) And THEN you went on to try and sound all cool calling out the dark knight and iron man and your fucking numbers were way off. Get a clue bro and dont call other people douche bags when you are clearly the major douche. The worldwide box office plays a part, no one is disputing that, but the american box office plays a large part on its own, oh and minus points for bringing up the mummy 3 (they all blow as far as I'm concerned) So to the guy with the sweet deadpool avatar, take back your apology!

Ok

Sorry if I came across as a douch. I just get upset when people try to argue things with out facts. Yes, after relooking up the numbers The Mummy 3 did do better outside the United States and that should be taking into account when discussing movies. Still Iron Man was the 5th highest grossing movie this year(as stated in my previous comment) and The Mummy 3 was 17th. With that in mind, Iron Man was a huge success while The Mummy 3 was average. Now if you brought up Indiana Jones 4 than that would be a totally different story. Indy 4 has made 465.0 internationaly which is HUGE. Seeing as how The Dark Knight made only 328.6 internationaly. So yes, I agree we ignore the worldwide numbers too much, it is just next time give us some numbers to back up your argument and you won't get so many people (including myself) being a dick to you.

corrected

Sorry, I do stand corrected. But please don't be such a dick with your response. Being online doesn't somehow make it okay to sound like a doosh.

And anyway, I may have been wrong about Dark Knight, but I was right about every other thing I said. The worldwide boxoffice is more important, and Iron Man didn't do as well for total Gross as a number of other films. And the Mummy 3, as you pointed out made over 200 million, which was my point exactly.

Again, sorry I got the first place wrong,

I wouldn't mind seeing The Mandarin make his appearance...

...Who I really would like to see though is War Machine. I hope they squeeze him in after the couple of teases in Iron Man, but if a trilogy is planned, I wouldn't expect him til the 3rd.

2010

Is shaping up to be a very good year for movies with all the sequels and prequels scheduled for release that year. No matter the villian in the next IM movie, it will be done well. I still maintain that even though the Dark Knight made more money than Iron Man which did come in 2nd this summer, Iron Man was a better structured movie and IMO a better movie all around. I know I'm stirring the kettle here but its just how I viewed the movies as entities.

The Unicorn

I always liked the Unicorn, although all he could do was fire a powerful laser from his head.
I think it's probably gonna be The Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom, but I like the idea of the actual suit (Jarvis computer) becoming the bad guy, like in the comics. And of course Tony Stark himself being his own worst enemy cuz of his alcoholism.

World Wide Box Office

Thank you PenguinSlide. I actually got off my ass(actually I looked uped the numbers but you get my drift) and saw that TDK made 801.8 million worldwide. Iron Man was 5th with 569.1 million. The Mummy 3 was 17th with 283.8 million. So before you try arguing something there unitedvisions look up the numbers first, you won't sound like a jackass then.

on caves

Since we're on the subject of caves, everyone keeps talking about the US box office like it's somehow more important than the worldwide box office. I can see how it's fun to use the NA box office for tracking opening weekends, but as far a total grosses over the year, how is the rest of the world not important?

For instance, anyone wondering how the apparent bomb that was Mummy 3 can still be considered a success? Check out the overseas numbers. And anyone who wants to talk about the biggest

@moviedude923.

You must know about caves, because I guess you live in one too. Iron Man is the second highest grossing film so far in 2008 (with $317 mil. domesticly, fourth worldwide), only TDK have taken in more at the boxoffice so far this year...

It didn't make a lot of money? Really? Um, I'm pretty sure it did. I don't even have to look up numbers to know that.

And I would also enjoy War Machine as well. Even tho, I agree Fing Fang Foom would be cool.

Fin Fang Foom!

I want to see Iron Man battle Fin Fang Foom. Come on, RDJ vs. A Big Fucking Talking Dragon (that's also an alien?).

I'm kind of joking. Though I think watching Iron Man fight a dragon would be awesome, I don't know how the fuck you would use him in a film. It would be an interesting challenge, though.

Mandarin

They already laid the groundwork for the introduction of the Mandarin in the first film by referring to the terrorist group as "The 10 Rings". I suspect that they will go that route now that they have the origin story out of the way.

Ummm what?

moviedude923 I hope you are kidding. This movie did extremely well at the box office (I am too lazy to look up exact numbers). As for villians, I never really followed Iron Man so I am not sure who would make a good villian, but maybe include the Hulk in there somehow.
