Iron Man 3's production code name is an interesting one

Mar. 9, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

The particular code name for something in production doesn't always mean much, or is often just utterly inscrutable to anyone except the person who came up with it. Microsoft's follow-up to the XBOX 360 bears the code name Durango, for example.  That being said, according to investigation by the folks over at Comicbook.com, "Iron Man 3 is currently in pre-production under the code name “Caged Heat.” I would strongly doubt that this shows up on any poster though, as it would be a bit weird considering how neither of the first two movies had any sort of subtitle.  "Even though Iron Man 3 has been officially announced as filming in Wilmington, the code name “Caged Heat” is still being used by various sources in the local Wilmington film industry."

And in another small confirmation of our previously reported start date for shooting: "Comicbook.com has reporters on-site in Wilmington, North Carolina where Iron Man 3 is scheduled to film at EUE/Screen Gems Studios. We’re hearing reports that set construction has already begun. As far as filming, we’re still hearing the target for initial filming will be very early May (with a possibility of late April)."

IRON MAN 3 is to be directed by Shane Black (KISS KISS BANG BANG) and will see the return of Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, and (very) possibly Scarlett Johansson.  Look for it May 3rd, 2013.

On a side note: Comicbook.com also has a very interesting (month-old) piece that speculates as to how Prince Namor/Sub-Mariner may in fact be the main villain of IRON MAN 3.  You can read all about it right here.

Extra Tidbit: While it may have been a bit overstuffed, I definitely enjoyed myself with IRON MAN 2.

I ALSO THINK ...

... after Avengers and bringing the whole magic aspect of the Marvel Universe, Mandarin should be an obvious choice for the villain in Iron Man 3.

Agree with the tidbit...just saw IM2 again yesterday...and it's a fun movie (I definitely enjoyed it more than the first one). I've got to say, the more I watch the Marvel movies...the more I like them...this especially applies to the Hulk and is why I'm so gutted Norton isn't reprising the role of Bruce Banner (no disrespect to the new guy but Ed owned the role in the same way Downey is Stark. Also, am the only one who thinks Johansson was way more hotter in IM2 than she is coming across in

Finally, Id go for a non machine type as the villain in the third installment and if that quick glimpse of a fight against Thor in the Avengers trailer is anything to go by, I suspect more people may think this after seeing it in full.

Most sane people enjoyed themselves with IRON MAN 2. It's a worthy follow up in a great franchise. Anyway, The Sub-Mariner??? That came out of nowhere and I doubt it'll happen. They will ground IM3 more like the first. Adding the "Prince/King of Atlantis" is way out there to be honest.

Mandarin has clearly been behind the scenes of the first two movies, so I think its time to bring that to a head. But I don't put it beyond the realm of possibility that Marvel opts to bring out another big-time character to up the scale. Iron Man 2 added Black Widow, War Machine, and gave Nick Fury some non post-credits screen time.

Would love the Mandarin, but would also like the name drop, before other studios do and end up stealing another franchise.

sounds good...

just let tony call Cable(b4 wade wilson bumps into him), Namor(b4 prof x calls him for advice), black panther(b4 he gets married to storm in a fox movie),
She-hulk (b4 she meets spider-man in nyc). Let the Beyonder show up and woo dazzler, while she still wears the mirror suit(b4 joining the xmen).Basically do to them before they do to you. Marvel did fine by taking these characters before the other studios could have gotten a chance to fuck them up, let them take the rest back so that the

Iron Man 2 gets better for me every time I see it. I think a lot of people were way too hard on it the first time. It's a really fun flick. As for Namor, no way they're going to go there. Doesn't Fox own the rights as part of the FF deal anyway? I would like a few Marvel cameos though.

It wont be The Mandarin...

that's for sure. Shane Black thinks he's a racist stereotype and refuses to use him. As for Namor if my theory about the army in The Avengers being Atlanteans is right then it could be a possibility, and as you can see above there is precedence for it. Though I doubt it will be though.

Thank you! Someone acknowledges the Caged Heat reference. I doubt that this is the plot. But, you know, Iron Man ran a prison for SHIELD in recent years.

I heard the same thing about him not doing Mandarin, which is sad. You can modernize Mandarin with out taking away from the character and aspects that make him unique. He doesn't have to be a stereotypical, but can be more culturally historical in nature. I always pictured him like the bad guy from Big Trouble in Little China.

I am on board with this for one reason only: Shane Black.
