Is a Goodfellas series coming to a TV near you?

"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster."

Of course Henry Hill wanted to be a gangster -- they never seem to go out of style. HBO's series "Boardwalk Empire" instantly got picked up for a second season after just one episode, Martin Scorsese wants to round up Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci for a mob movie, and we're reminiscing about the 20th anniversary of GOODFELLAS.

Speaking of that mafia masterpiece, how would you like some more?

According to Deadline, original writer Nicholas Pileggi would theoretically write this GOODFELLAS series pilot (at least), and that "Warner Bros TV is in lead position to grab the series -- the studio distributed the original pic -- though several studios want it. Scorsese's participation is unclear, but Irwin Winkler is likely to be the TV exec producer."

Whether it will be further based on Hill's actual gangster days or a fictionalized account of others in the mob remains to be seen, but having the original writer (and title) is a step in the right direction.
