Is Darren Aronofsky a possible candidate for directing Superman?

It's another superhero news day. So what's up next?

Darren Aronofsky in the running to direct SUPERMAN, that's what's next.

Now instead of five possible directors we have six. Just in case you missed the news, here are those five directors that were thrown into the hat: Tony Scott (MAN ON FIRE), Matt Reeves (LET ME IN), Jonathan Liebesman (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES), Duncan Jones (MOON), and Zack Snyder (WATCHMEN).

Sources of the LA Times say that Christopher Nolan has had discussions with Aronofsky about the project. Is Aronofsky the right choice for the job? What would Aronofsky bring to the table? I think that this choice rivals someone like Duncan Jones. This is me purely going off of MOON. Obviously Aronofsky has had a lot more experience with bigger scale projects. This would certainly be an intriguing route for the director to go. But would he really sign on for SUPERMAN? This is another part that is up in the air for me. I think that someone like Aronofsky would want a great deal of creative control. It's also great to imagine what sorts of ideas Nolan and Aronofsky would bounce off one another.

But so far, this is just news from a source. When Nolan makes his decision in the next few weeks, that's when we will know for sure. Unless Aronofsky himself just throws it out there.

Oh, and ROBOCOP did get brought up despite MGM's financial woes. During TIFF the director said this, "I think I'm still attached. I don't know. I haven't heard from anyone in a while." Eh. I don't know if this will ever happen.

Aronofsky and SUPERMAN? What do you guys think?
