Is Fox looking to follow-up X-Men: Days of Future Past with an X-Force movie?

Jul. 12, 2013by:

X-Force

Marvel still owns the film rights to plenty of their characters, but Fox has a big chunk of them including what is probably their crown jewel, the X-Men. With the success Marvel has had with their cinematic universe, many people believe Fox might be trying to do something similar with their comic book properties. There's a lot of characters being brought together for one movie in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but I don't think Fox sees this as the "end" of something (like how THE AVENGERS was the end of Phase One), but the start of something new.

X-MenFilms.com has learned that might just be the case. According to them, Fox registered the future website address X-ForceMovie.com three months ago, which of course means an X-FORCE movie could be in the works. This might seem like a stretch, but this was also how it was discovered the new X-Men film would be called DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, right before it was revealed by Bryan Singer. Fox does have a panel planned for this year's Comic Con, but there's been no news on what it will involve. Maybe this is when we'll find out what Fox has in store for the X-Men going forwards?

Bishop has already been confirmed for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and original X-Force member Warpath, so that could be part of the team right there. Cable could appear in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST as well or X-FORCE considering he's time traveled before like Bishop.

Which brings us to another interesting possibility: Deadpool. Cable has worked alongside the "Merc with a Mouth" numerous times and since they're having trouble with a solo film for the character they could tie Deadpool in with X-FORCE.

I don't know about you but I'm very interested in reading about Fox's panel at Comic Con next week. JoBlo.com will be covering the event (of course) so we could have some solid news on the future for the X-Men very shortly.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is in theaters May 23rd, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Oh yeah, what about Wolverine in all of this? Think Fox will give the character or rest or is he too popular to sit out for too long?

Fox bought the X-Men (and X-Universe) movie rights back in 1998 when making comic movies was a big risk. Disney came along in 2010 and bought Marvel after it was a sure thing that comic movies were huge money makers. Disney didn't take any risk, they just have a lot of money to throw around. If it wasn't for Fox green lighting X-Men in the late 90s, we (probably) wouldn't have comic book movies today. There's absolutely no reason to hate on Fox for any reason. Also, if Disney ever did get

Also, if Disney ever did get their hands on the X-Men franchise, you'd never see movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man ever again...because all they'd (Disney) do is make Wolverine and X-Men movies as well as Iron Man and Avengers movies.

50 years of comics and storylines is like a gold-mine for these producers and studios. This is my Golden Age of film.

I'm not sure that Marvel never getting the X-Me franchise back is such a bad thing. After all, can you imagine a Wolverine or Deadpool movie made properly by DISNEY for crying out loud? Those are characters with violent tendencies That movie would suck!! X-Men and its characters deal with so much on a political level. The whole race/mutant issue is a very touchy subject, and its not likely that Disney, a company that retired Song of the South because of the racial nerves it touches on, will

Though I would love to see an Avengers VS X-MEN showdown on screen some day. Hey, maybe in animated format.

You mean the same Disney that played a part in the careers of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Disney is more than just princesses

Im really excited with this new possible proyect in the X-Men universe, but please leave Wolverine OUT.

A cameo at most. Let Cable, Deadpool and Domino shine, without Wolverine stealing screentime again.

I copied and pasted my other post

X-Men: The Last Stand didn't happen because the timeline was changed in the seventies. I am not sure if Wolverine even has adamantium anymore. Characters who died or lost their powers in Last Stand could return. Here's a list of characters they could use for an X-Force movie using actors they have already used.

Psylocke: Mei Melanon ... Angel: Ben Foster ... Mystique: Rebecca Romijn ... Callisto: Dania Ramirez
Warpath: Booboo Stewart ... Sunspot: Adan Canto ... Multiple Man: Eric Dane ...

Psylocke: Mei Melanon ... Angel: Ben Foster ... Mystique: Rebecca Romijn ... Callisto: Dania Ramirez
Warpath: Booboo Stewart ... Sunspot: Adan Canto ... Multiple Man: Eric Dane ... Siren: Shauna Kain
Jubilee: Kea Wong ... Blink: Bingbing Fan ... Bishop: Omar Sy ... Pyro: Aaron Stanford ... Toad: Ray Park

I don't want Cable introduced yet because he is supposed to be from the future and we've just had a time travel story so I think he should be saved for a movie with Apocalypse as the villain.

What would be the plot of X-Force Well, Days of Future Past changed the timeline. Perhaps Xavier and Magneto make peace. Psylocke, Mystique, Callisto, Multiple Man, Pyro and Toad thus become X-Men rather than forming Magneto's Brotherhood. New mutants Warpath, Sunspot, Siren, Cannonball, Boom Boom, Wolfsbane, Moonstar and Jubilee are then a new class of mutants that Xavier entrusts to Magneto. Cannonball, Moonstar, Wolfsbane and Boom Boom are new characters to the X-Men cinematic universe.

Enter Bishop. In this timeline Bishop is a citizen of Genosha. Genosha is the X-men equivalent of apartheid South Africa except it is not black people who are discriminated against but mutants. Bishop tells Xavier and Magneto about the atrocities in Genosha including experiments on mutants. Stryker died in X-Men United but he could still be alive and in Genosha in this timeline. Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds could be reintroduced nicely this way: Stryker gave him healing powers after having obtained a sample of Wolverine's DNA back in the 70s so now Deadpool is still alive after all these years. Sabretooth [Triple H] and Lady Deathstrike [Kelly Hu] could also be working for Stryker. The fourth and fifth Stryker agents could be Omega Red and Feral. Lady Deathstrike died in X-Men United but she could still be alive in the new timeline. Recall that Stryker was using his son Jason to control her.

The Genoshan storyline could be convoluted with the Mojoworld storyline. Rita Wayword could be a scientist working for Stryker in Genosha rather than for Mojo. To be consistent with the comics, they could have Rita being mind controlled.by Stryker. As in the comics, Arthur "Longshot" Centino would be both the leader of the rebellion in Genosha and a former lover of Rita. Domino and Caliban would be working for him. Arthur's brother, Gaveedra "Shatterstar" Centino would also be mind controlled and working for Stryker. Another mutant that could be on Stryker's side is Angel [Ben Foster] who Stryker has transformed into Archangel. Oh and we could have Rita be the cyborg Spiral too.

Anyway, Xavier does not approve of sending the X-Men to essentially overthrow a foreign government. Xavier suggests that Hank McCoy as a US Senator can try to convince the government if not the United Nations to impose sanctions against Genosha. Magneto disagrees, to put in mildly. Magneto then assembles a team that he will take to Genosha.

Magneto's team has to consist of mutants who are powerful and fast so we may have to trim a bit of fat here. Magneto's team can consist of Wolverine, Bishop, Psylocke, Mystique, Callisto, Pyro, Warpath, Sunspot, Siren and Cannonball with them joining forces with Longshot and Domino when they arrive in Genosha.

Recall that Stryker's force now consists of Deadpool, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Omega Red, Feral, Shatterstar, Archangel and Spiral. The question becomes how Magneto's X-Force doesn't defeat them within the first half hour. My guess is that Omega Red takes out Wolverine, Deadpool takes out Bishop, Lady Deathstrike takes out Psylocke, Feral takes out Cannonball, Shatterstar takes out Warpath and Sabretooth takes out Mystique leaving Magneto, Callisto and Pyro and having to regroup and join forces with Longshot and Domino and their rebels. Longshot and Domino are more familiar with Genosha and are able to help Magneto, Sunspot, Siren, Callisto and Pyro go back in and rescue the rest of X-Force. An added plot twist could be that Magneto is able to free Archangel from Stryker's control and Archangel joins them in the second assault. Another plot twist could have Stryker already having the other members of X-Force under his control (which is why he doesn't just kill them) by the time the second strike begins but the members of X-Force are all able to overcome the mind control and not fight their friends. One by one all of Stryker's agents free themselves from the mind control and X-Force wins.

The movie ends with the government of Genosha overthrown by Longshot's rebels. Longshot is, however, killed by Spiral and the rebels are left without a leader. Magneto agrees to become the new leader of Genosha and Mystique, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Omega Red, Feral, Shatterstar, Bishop and Domino become his Acolytes. Wolverine, meanwhile, returns to the X-Men.

The end credit scene consists of Cable coming back in time and warning them about the coming Age of Apocalypse. Cable recruits Archangel, Psylocke, Callisto, Pyro, Sunspot, Siren, Warpath and Cannonball and trains them for the coming war against Apocalypse, thus leaving room for a sequel with that line up.

Oh and in retrospect the full title would be X-Force: X-Tinction Agenda with the sequel being X-Force: Age of Apocalypse. They can also do a Deadpool spinoff.

IF X-Force is a movie they are interested in, I kind of seeing it being the more recent wetworks team run by Wolverine that went after Apocalypse

I think this would be a pretty cool idea and an awesome chance to see some new Mutants that we have never seen before or want to see more of. For instance Deadpool and Gambit.

I'm probably the only one...

...but I'd much rather have it be a movie based on Milligan & Allred's X-Force (and later X-Statix).
It's such a great commentary on pop culture and obsession with celebrities and reality shows. In addition it was a great "superhero" book.

Yea, it could all work out beautifully, especially in all of our geek minds its a good idea. But who knows what the final product it would be after Fox is done with it.

Considering how violent most of the modern X-Force comics are, I'm not entirely sure how this would work...

Probably badly.

Get a new Wolverine already!

Jackman is too tall and he's too obvious an actor for the role. I'd like to see Tom Hardy
