Is Game of Thrones getting ready to film The Red Wedding?

Oct. 9, 2012by: Alex Maidy

GAME OF THRONES fans, this is your spoiler warning. If you have not read the George RR Martin novels or wish to keep everything fresh, turn away from this story now. I will not be held responsible for your anger and frustration if you continue reading this story. You have been warned.

For those of you who are still reading, you need to know that a major event is coming to GAME OF THRONES. The upcoming third season is getting ready to film a major moment that will change the show forever. Westeros.org is reporting on a casting call for the show that is looking for two specific criteria for filming between October 12-19:

CELLISTS - brief:
- Seeking MALE only cellists. Must have experience.
- Ideally men with medieval or period faces (i.e long hair & beard) but not essential.

AMPUTEES - brief:
- Seeking LEG ONLY, MALE AMPUTEES.
- You must be OK and comfortable with filming a scene within the context of a battle where your leg has been injured. Prosthetic makeup will be applied as though your leg has newly been severed. We understand that this is not for everyone, so please only apply if you are happy to participate.

Cellists would generally be needed at some sort of banquet or celebration and amputees for a massive battle sequence. Fitting in with the timeline that the first two seasons followed, it looks like THRONES fans are about to see The Red Wedding. For those of you who want to know what that is, The Red Wedding is a massacre that leaves thousands dead, including a couple of very significant members of the Stark family.

GAME OF THRONES has the advantage of being on HBO so they do not have to pull any punches when filming, but the graphic content of the scene as written in the novel may be too much even for pay cable. If they do film everything from the book, it will definitely go down as one of the most shocking scenes in television history.

Any GAME OF THRONES fans out there excited to see The Red Wedding?

Sadistic fuck that I am

I am more excited about my non book reading friends reaction to the red wedding, than I am to the moment itself. I still have warm fond memories of their disbelief and despair after the Baelor episode in season one!

Nothing in all my years of reading has pissed me off more than The Red Wedding. I literally threw the book against the wall after reading it and didnt touch the novel for more than a couple of weeks before finishing it. This wedding makes anything else done on the show seem like child's play.

hmmm

If they are already getting to filming it i would imagine it will be the thing the end the season on. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

the moment I have been waiting for

I hope and pray this ends Season 3. I checked my book and this happens in chapter 53 or so and the book has 35 more chapters after that. Here's hoping. I want to see my Facebook light up with dropped jaws.

Change the title of the article

I am a book reader so its not like it affected me, but I really don't think your title to your article should have Red Wedding in it. RW has been what most people have been calling the event, to keep TV show fans in the dark, and Red Wedding is a bit too easy to figure out, so even if someone doesn't want to read the article, the title alone will let them know all the RW references people were making referred to the Red Wedding. Made an account solely to get this point across, I hope the title

As soon as i heard they would split the third book into 2, i immediately thought that the Red Wedding would make for an ideal S3 season finale. It comes a little past halfway of the book IIRC, but thematically it's the biggest dramatic moment that's "in the middle".

Change the title

I am EXCITED for this! It will truly be one of the best things ever shown on TV, and more shocking than what fans experienced with Eddard Stark in Season 1. However, I do agree that "RED WEDDING" should be removed from the title. Way too easy to figure out what that means. I too am excited for the non-book reader reactions when it happens! I remember after I read the RW scene in the book, I threw it across my room into the closet and left it alone for a week I was so mad! I saw an interview

I saw an interview with Martin and he said it was really hard to write that sequence, and he literally wrote everything in the book before and after it, and wrote that part last because it was emotionally tough to do it.

This scene as well as the battle scene at the end of season two where the two that I felt HBO would have the hardest time replicating on the small screen. So far they are 1 for 1, so I am very excited to see how they address this next season.

Book 3 is going to be 2 seasons

They already stated that they are dividing the third installment of The Game of Thrones series into 2 seasons so I don't expect to see this scene until the end of the 4th season because there are a lot of things that happen before this event occurs. If you haven't read the novels, I would highly recommend it because I remember reading this chapter, not knowing it was going to happen obviously and almost throwing my iPad across the room once I read it and about had tears in my eyes. I cannot

The Red Wedding happens not too far past the middle of Storm of Swords. In my opinion, it would be the perfect place to end Season 3.

It only happens midway through the book because the author has to go on and explain what else is happening throughout the land around the exact same time. This could easily be pushed to the end of season 4 instead. They probably won't do that though, because Ned was killed a little over halfway through season 1 so I can see them doing the same here. Either way, it is going to be quite the show and I am going to buy a cake and eat it while I watch it.

Major compression going on

Unless they got an order for way more episodes, that seems like a huge jump from where season two ends to the events of the red wedding - even if it's the season 3 finale. These guys need to slow it down a bit.
