Is Hayley Atwell gearing up to star in the Peggy Carter spin-off series?

Jan. 2, 2014by:

Remember when we were talking about the possibility of a Peggy Carter series on ABC? Before the project wasn't greenlit nor did it lock Hayley Atwell to reprise her role, but according to The Mirror sources are giving thumbs up across the board.

The source states that Atwell is on, and that the project is a major one with a huge budget for Marvel. Back in October, the actress said this about the fan interest in her returning to the role in a series:

"I read about that too. The one-shot was so successful, the fanbase were like, 'We want more of Peggy!'. I think Marvel probably take that very seriously, and it's certainly something I would be a part of doing. I'd be interested to show different sides of Peggy. I think she could be a great role model and a great member of the Marvel Universe. I love the Marvel lot, they're really great people to work with, so it would be nice to go back and work with them again. I'd definitely do it."

If this is true, it's certainly a huge deal not only for the Marvel Universe but fans as well. Not many females have lead their own comic based series, and Carter is the perfect character for something like this. The show is said to premiere Fall 2014.

Question: Has everyone who is complaining about "Agents Of SHIELD" actually seen all 10 episodes so far they've shown so far? Cause the show has picked up A LOT better now since it's first 3 episodes.

Yes and no. There have been a few episodes that lived up to the show's premise but the mid-season cliffhanger episode was pretty bad. I hope discount Luke Cage doesn't become a regular because the actor who plays him is not that good.

Peggy Carter is an agent of SHIELD. So is Howard Stark, Tony's father. Could they replace the current Agents of SHIELD on TV? In other words, Season 2 of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD could concentrate on the organization--and its interesting staff--during the 1950s. Furthermore, the show could include superheroes who have powers that our more friendly to a network TV budget. How much would Patriot, Whizzer, 3-D Man, Miss America, or Venus cost to represent on-screen? Maybe, we comicfans could have

And, ABC and Marvel can call the show a "reboot" or not.

Most people would still complain, not knowing that Patriot, Whizzer, 3-D Man, Miss America, or Venus are actually from the comics. Agents of SHIELD has had a lot of characters from the comics (Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Jasper Stitwell, Graviton) appear in cameos. I also suspect that there will be some characters that will appear on TV to tie in with the next few Marvel movies (perhaps the Falcon or Baron Strucker) or with the upcoming Netflix series.

MEH! This will basically just be Agents of SHIELD set in the 50's. And AOS is a horrible show!

I have no faith in this project whatsoever!

Well if The Mirror is reporting it as fact, there's no way it's not completely made up.

I'd love to see Peggy in her own series but I doubt the series would be longer than just one season.

Why the hell would they spend resources on this???? Marvel has so much more interesting material they should focus on.

I would give this a chance and all, but really I don't get what the big deal would be. Take a character that is somewhat known and put them in a series instead of spending the cash on this. I am not saying it will be bad, I like Peggy and the show could be good, but what about the show will scream Marvel? Why not spend the extra money on Daredevil or something?

The show will be set in the fifties and she'll probably lead a team that consists of 1) a hard nosed veteran who will complain that he/she is past her prime and too old for this nonsense, 2) a young up-in-coming agent who will complain about how he is better doing things on his own 3) a rookie agent who will complain about all the regulations and paperwork and 4) a couple of techs who will speak to each other in technobabble causing the rookie agent to tell them to "Speak English".

I'm not sure how far a period-set Marvel television show would advance the current continuity seeing as nothing that happens in a timeline that already seems to have the book closed on it would have direct impact on the contemporary continuity. That said, Atwell is lovely and played Peggy Carter impeccably and I would not be violently opposed to the idea of this show at all. I think Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is certainly lacklustre but not terrible. It's a lower decks series, like how many shows

It's a lower decks series, like how many shows have a lower deck episode, but they've not been able to sustain that concept so far and it isn't a terribly intriguing team to watch at work. I love that plane though.

I'm interested in a series based on the best MCU female character, but I really hope it turns out better than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That show has just been flat out disappointing so far with boring characters and bad writing.

This is great news, but if its quality is anything like Agents of Shield, then this show is in trouble. I really hope this show has better writers and characters because Coulson is the only reason to watch Agents of Shield at this point.
