Is Jonathan Demme looking to Honeymoon with Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper?

Together again so quickly?

THE DARK FIELDS just finished up shooting and co-stars Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper are looking to team up for HONEYMOON WITH HARRY.

The screenplay was written by Paul Haggis (CRASH, CASINO ROYALE) and has spent a lot of time on the “best unmade” list. Apparently, the reason the script has been tossed around so much is because no one knows how to classify it–it’s a strong comedy with drama elements. the best way to describe it is as a “James Brooks-style look at two characters who loathe one another but are stuck together at a time when each is in desperate shape.”.

But which director might be able to get this mess all sorted out? Director Jonathan Demme is currently circling the project. The last film Demme helmed was 2008’s RACHEL GETTING MARRIED starring Anne Hathaway. Most recently the director was in post-production on a Bob Marley documentary.

Two weeks ago, De Niro and Bradley both read for the lead roles. Cooper read for the role of “a formerly self-centered womanizing booze-hound who changed his ways when he met a girl and fell in love.” De Niro read for the part of “the girl’s father, who recognizes himself in the young man, and tries to break them up.” The two get engaged anyway, but before they can walk down the aisle the girl dies tragically. After the funeral, the guy goes to basically kill himself on their honeymoon untll he runs into her Father who has come to spread his Daughter’s ashes on her favorite beach.

Cooper and De Niro had such a great experience working together that they decided to go for the roles, which raised the interest level of the project considerably.
