Is Sony bringing us a big-screen adaptation of The Last of Us?

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

I don't play video games. Not because I don't like them, but because I just don't have the patience to play them without getting pissed. I never even beat Super Mario Brothers if that gives you any indication as to how badly I suck at video games. But even I couldn't ignore the hype behind the hit video game THE LAST OF US. It looks simply badass and I'm sure many of you reading this have played it thinking it could make for a great film. Now IGN is reporting that Sony has registered a pair of website domain names that suggest a movie adaptation of its hit PS3 exclusive might be under consideration for the big-screen treatment.

IGN reports that the domains TheLastOfUs-Movie.com and TheLastOfUsMovie.net were both registered on November 25th by Sony's online brand protection agency, MarkMonitor, while the registrant's email has a Sony Pictures address. Could this mean an announcement of a feature film (perhaps franchise?) is coming? One can only speculate at the moment, but it seems that something is in the works.

Here's the games synopsis:

The Last of Us tells the story of Joel, a survivor of the savage cordyceps virus infection which has plunged the USA into a chillingly-authentic post-apocalyptic hell. He embarks on a cross-America trip with a precious cargo, Ellie, leaving the relative safety of the quarantine zone where they will encounter fierce mutated husks and crazed survivors.

That could most certainly make for a badass flick, wouldn't you say?

We'll keep you posted on news regarding a potential film based on THE LAST OF US as we hear it!
