The new Terminator film is now called Terminator: Genisys

Aug. 6, 2014by:

TERMINATOR: GENESIS, while not an exciting title, made sense given the rebooting-nature of the plot we've heard thus far. There was a rumor a little while ago that the studio would be dropping the GENESIS subtitle and might simply call the film TERMINATOR. I think I would have preferred that. Instead of dropping GENESIS, the creature from John Carpenter's THE THING got a hold of it and morphed it into something unnatural.

Check out this Instagram update from Arnold:

The Terminator himself had this to say:

Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup - we couldn't have done it without you. I can't wait to see our finished project and I know we'll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I'll be back.

Unless that's just another working title, GENISYS is what we're left with. TERMINATOR: GENISYS. I'm probably not the only one scratching their head, wondering "Why?" but I'm not even sure a reason would make that pseudo-word easier to swallow at this point. Here's a deal, guys; make a great Terminator film and you can call it whatever the hell you want. Deal?

TERMINATOR: GENISYS will hit theaters July 1, 2015.

Too bad this isn't the sixth film in the series. Then they could call it "Terminator: Gene6th".

I'm assuming that the original computer program that becomes self-aware at Skynet is called "Genisys". That doesn't make it a good title for a movie though. Maybe it helps them get a stronger trademark or something - I can only assume this was a marketing decision.

New AI character?

Could Genisys be the name of a new iteration of Skynet?

Reminds me of stupid made up names people give their kids these days, ie Brynlee, Brycelynn, Jaxxon, that will only result in people being corrected on the spelling of for the rest of their existence.

I have an odd hope for this movie.

I love the premise. I think it is a great way to reboot the series, by going back in time and changing the events of the first film. I just hope they can pull it off.

Only if....

The only thing that matters is if Arnold gets naked again. If not than count me out.

Going to be honest, I'm not too worried about it. As long as the movie itself is good then "what's in a name?".

Unless that name is "Keith"...uugggghhh.

For accuracy, it should be called Terminator: PG-13-SYS

If you look at the screen behind Arnie there it says "Genisys" with some kind of countdown. It obviously has something to do with a new program or plot point. I could care less what the title is, as long as the film is awesome.

At least keep the word "Gene"

Now we're one letter away from "Penisys"... which may actually be brilliant. Time-traveling cyborg schlong?

I don't know if this movie will be good or bad but

lets go guys, lets use our heads for a minute instead of being assholes and whining.

Genisis means Rebirth
Skynet is a computer SYStem

GeneSYS its a double meaning word.

They're spelling it the way Schwarzenegger pronounces it.

Gen(eration)1Sys(tem)?

Typo

They misspelled genesis. There's no "y" in that word.
