Is this the best movie poster of the year? (Hint: yes)

02.28.2011

He created iconic movie posters for NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION, BARBARELLA, DEATHSTALKER and EMPIRE STRIKES BACK but legendary painter Boris Vallejo hasn't done any movie work since 2007's AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE. But this weekend, Magnet Releasing quietly sent out the latest trailer for Quentin Dupieux's RUBBER, which featured the latest work by Mr. Vallejo (with partner Julie Bell).

In the era of minimalist posters, it's nice to see a maximalist poster. It's a great piece of art and it matches the movie beautifully. We don't get a lot of opportunities to see hand-drawn posters these days, so enjoy this because I'm sure it'll be a long time before we see another one. (I would've loved to have seen a Frank Frazetta poster for YOUR HIGHNESS...)

I dig it. I'm tired of the character posters we get for every action flick that comes out. I'd really like to see the classic poster style come back.

It's fine. Too bad the movie looks dumb.

This does nothing for me. The trailer for this movie is dumb. Maybe it will be some cult classic, but the only way I'd watch this is if I was high. A tire is the main character? Lame lame lame lame!

Best Poster? Nah.

But it is definitely up there. For my money, however, I Saw the Devil has had some amazing posters come out.

If I was intrigued by Rubber before, I definiely want to see it now. That they even decided to contact Vallejo for this says something.

Illustrated movie posters simply are the best! As a design it works great with the positive and negative spaces and is something freah in the lame ass Photoshopped posters of today. I think the last poster I saw illustrated was Indiana Jones 4.

Is no Frank Frazetta for sure. But he has always done a great job with his movie posters. I like his movie poster work tons more than hi , meh calander work He and Julie Bell have put out for the last decade and a half. Would love to see him do alot more movie work, it draws my eye everytime. As far as the movie goe's Not sure. What I've seen looked pretty bad, but could be fun. We'll see

What do you think is better than this in terms of design, artistry and relation to the film itself?

It's ok...not best of the year, sorry

It's hard to know what this is about. I assume some kind of sleaze, and that I'm supposed to titter immaturely about the dual meaning of "rubber".

Despite what film schools and the the internet keep telling everyone. A poster doesn't have to tell you what the movie is about. That's what the movie is for. The poster should make you interested and want to know more.

Looks very cool. It's a bit strange not to see a poster without a tagline.
