Is Venom destined to battle Carnage in the upcoming spinoff?

04.14.2014

One character I’m dying to see on film is Carnage. He’s been teased time and time again, and this time isn’t any different. With a new Venom spinoff, you’d think that the chances might be high for Carnage to get his day even if it’s in a second installment, if that happens. I wish I could tell you it was a sure thing, but for now we just get another “maybe.”

When IGN spoke with producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, the subject of a recent Daily Bugle blog post was brought up. This one in particular focused on Kletus Kassidy’s arrest after a long time of being sought by the FBI. Who wrote it? Future symbiote Father, Eddie Brock. IGN cut to the chase eventually by asking if Carnage would find his way into the Venom spinoff to which Arad answered: ”What a great idea.”

Tolmach added:

The idea of Venom and Carnage? Taking it into consideration. Watch out for this Venom movie. We are crazy excited.

As much as I want to see Carnage, I’d also like them to take their time and deliver a decent movie. I don’t want Carnage to be rushed into it just because they feel like they have to. Again, if they wait until a second solo Venom movie to bring Carnage into it then I’ll be happy.

VENOM may hit theaters on May 4, 2018.

I'd rather see a Maximum Carnage storyline, with both Spidey and Venom working together

Not sure how they are going to invest us in the movie character without us seeing how he came about and Spidey is integral to that. Non-comic book readers may end up confused.

Okay we saw it in Raimi's films but still, how does Venom look the way he does if he comes about independent of Spiderman in this new movie? They're so deeply connected. Don't see it making sense.

What about all the original characters that make it to the screen every year? They still get invested in.

???? Not really the point I was making. The character has close ties to Spiderman and even looks like an f'd up version of him. How does that get explained when Spiderman is not in the picture. The origin would need to be changed or discarded. If it is discarded then it could be hard for people who are not comic book fans to find a way into the character.

My question still stands. Why would non-comic fans have a hard time connecting? Because he isn't riding the coattails of a more popular brand? So what? What previous franchise is Rocky riding? Or the Inglorious Basterds riding? Movies get made about original characters all the time, how would that be any different than using a not-so-popular spinoff character without the person he spun off from? (which I'm pretty sure they aren't doing anyway. He'll be connected to Spidey)

I really hope this turns out well. I didn't hate venom in the third spiderman, but he wasn't great either. I don't wanna see the actors face half the time either like in spiderman 3. Give us a great film.

so at the end of the Venom movie, Carnage is still on the loose, and Eddie decides he has to team up with Peter... then The Amazing Spider-Man 4: Maximum Carnage?!!?

Comic book 'Villain' movies shouldn't even exist. To make a good villain movie though, would almost certainly mean it would have to be Rated R, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

I think were just going to get a watered down version of Carnage. I remember the first time I read a comic with Carnage in it, he tossed a baby out of a hospital window. You wont see that in a PG-13 movie.

As much as I would love to see Venom again on the big screen and to finally see Carnage make his live debut, I just don't see this being a good idea or a decent film. I think these villains only work with their nemesis' and in this case it's Spider Man and if he won't be in the film, then I don't really see the need for a solo villain film.

It would be astonishing if they could pull this and/or Sinister Six off successfully.

They should just make it Spider-Man, Venom and Carnage in "Maximum Carnage The Movie" and be done with it.

I feel like a film with Venom and Carnage would be interesting olny if Spider-man was involved in story somehow, otherwise it won't reach it's full potential for a story. Also, I'm not I want to support the idea of solo villain films. What's next, a Riddler vs. Joker movie.

I'm curious why you think Carnage is a bad idea in the first movie. It makes perfect sense to me. And don't give me this "they need a whole film for venoms origin" shit, I was a die hard comic collector for about 15 years, I still remember Carnage' first appearance. Total psychopath that makes Venom look normal by comparison lol. Great way to start Venoms movie(s)!

Like Cerealkiller182 said, who else would he fight? (assuming Spidey isn't in the film) I don't know much of Venom outside of how it related to Spidey, but I'm not aware of him having other major foes.

F both of these characters. Paying for this just delays Marvel getting Spidey back...

If this movie was done properly I could get excited for it. It does not matter if they go with Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson as long as they do the character justice and deliver the Venom we deserve!
