It's ant-sized clobberin' time! New photos from Fantastic Four and Ant-Man

04.09.2015

It was just this morning when we got our first good look at The Thing as he'll appear in FANTASTIC FOUR and now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we already have another photo of Ben Grimm laying down a good ol' fashioned clobberin' on some unknown fool. Now we just need to get a look at Doctor Doom and we'll be set!

When Twentieth Century Fox came calling in search of a new vision for FANTASTIC FOUR, Josh Trank immediately thought about how terrifying it would be if you actually did burst into flame or have your arms turn to rubber:

I just kinda jumped to ‘body horror’ in my head, Chronicle is about the evolution and strengthening of unique powers. This movie is really viewing them as a curse.

Entertainment Weekly seemed pleased with the footage shown to them, saying that "Trank may have succeeded in rescuing the Four from obscurity." My expectations of the film have elevated somewhat now that we've seen some actual footage, but I've yet to have gotten truly excited about the project. That said, it can't be any worse than the previous Fantastic Four films. Fingers crossed.

EW also brought us what is possibly our most exciting look at ANT-MAN to date; Ant-Man launching into battle with Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket. I'm really diggin' the look of Corey Stoll's Yellowjacket suit; hopefully his battles with Ant-Man will be as visually thrilling as I'm imagining they are.

Director Peyton Reed commented on the potential mismatch between the two characters as “Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit doesn’t have a single weapon, whereas Yellowjacket is armed with plasma cannons" by clarifying that "Ant-Man is very fast when he’s small, also, when he shrinks, he increases his density, so he’s got increased strength." Motion-capture suits were worn to film this encounter with both Corey Stoll and Paul Rudd being shot separately, something Paul Rudd hadn't dealt with before:

It was a new experience as far as the motion-capture-suit-ness of it, but none of it feels that different. Every part, I’m pretending to be somebody I’m not. It’s all just a big lie!

Seeing as how ANT-MAN will be hitting theaters on July 17, a mere three months away, I'd imagine we'll be getting a new trailer for the film sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, FANTASTIC FOUR will show up on August 7.

Gotta say...

I fucking hate the whole "view powers as a curse" bullshit. I can't speak for others but never, never have I looked at these superheroes and been like, damn, sucks to be you. Must suck to burst into flames, but not get burnt and be able to fly around. Give me a fucking break. It's so emo.

To be fair, turning into a big ugly rock monster might not be all that it's cracked up to be.

I guess there are always exceptions, no doubt. For the most part though we'd be balling out with our new powers.

Yellowjacket looks dope as fuck!...But still not going to see the movie though. I have no interest in a Ant Man movie. It sounds and looks so ridiculous.

It's refreshing not to be so invested in the source material of a movie. FF may well turn out to be just as much of a let down as the previous two entries...but I was never a fan of the characters and can go in to this completely open minded. If this truly turns out to be nothing like the FF that fans of the characters are familiar with...will they still be able to enjoy this movie...if it's actually...you know...good?

Viewing super powers as a curse...YEAH, THAT SOUNDS LIKE FANTASTIC FOUR TO: NO ONE. Can't wait for this movie to bomb. Yellowjacket looks cool though.

Actually, Ben Grimm always looked at his powers as a curse. Mostly because he looked like a monster though.

Agreed. The whole "powers as a curse" thing has been done to death in comics and movies. To have Johnny Storm think of his powers as a curse is completely against character since he embraces this more than anyone. The only character to really think of them as a curse was Ben Grimm as ThatYellowBastard said and if that's the basis of the movie, then Trank is really bringing nothing new to the table.

On the fence for both of these, but have to say not really familiar with ant man. Looked up his powers, so he can shrink and still remain at full size strength. Well that means hes just a normal joe, how is he going to defeat super villains.

So sick and tired of reading Trank referencing Chronicle in every one his dumbass statements. It's almost like he set this film to be a sequel to that film then actually making a film that seems to be in the vein and tone of the actual Fantastic Four.

And as for Ant Man, I'm really excited despite Wright's departure. I feel like it's going to be very reminiscent of the first Iron Man and will surprise a lot of the naysayers.

Sick of you saying the same thing for each FF post. I think ant man looks stupid. That picture is basically a smart ant vs a man. But I just stopped reading all the ant man related posts bc I TRY not to prove my IQ to other ppl.

So Josh Trank explaining how this film revolves around entirely different themes somehow...ties those two films together? You make no sense, and this point it's pretty obvious that you have a personal vendetta against this film, and even if it turns out to be the greatest superhero film ever made you still will be bitter about it.

At last he admited it !

There, finally, Trank said it:
It's NOT Fantastic Four, it's Chronicle: The Reboot !
Fuck You Trank !

Happy

The Thing looks like the Thing instead of wearing a rubbery suit as it appeared in the original films, he looks like a pile of rocks!

Instead of a man made out of rock he looks like rocks piled into a man shape. That's not so great.

I've bashed the FF4 a lot but the Thing doesn't look too terrible. They still fucked it up not giving him the strong brow. I gotta say I honestly prefer the look on the older movies, this while not looking terrible, looks more like the golem from The Neverending Story. The Yellowjacket suit is damn nice. I am really digging that, despite not being all that enthused about the movie as a whole.
