It's finally here! The trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has arrived

It's so nice to be back at the Shire. This is also perhaps one of the best pre-Christmas gifts ever.

The trailer for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY has arrived. What can I say about it? My words would only be a feeble attempt to explain how truly amazing this one trailer is. I will say that I am so happy that this movie got made and that Martin Freeman took the role of Bilbo Baggins. There's also a really cool poster included.

Synopsis: “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Doesn't give away too much and still excited

As a fan of the original series, this trailer works for me. Howard Shores musical score, tidbits of scenes i recognize from the story, beloved characters, stunning set pieces, Hobbiton, and leaving out their best action sequences so i can wait in anticipation instead of watering down the moment for when i see it in theaters, even though i'd probably still be WOWed by it all anyway.
As a fan of the original series, this trailer works for me. Fell asleep during the first one, couldn't make it through the second, and watch "Return of the King" at the theaters and couldn't wait for it to be over. Doesn't mean anything other than it's just not my thing.

If it's not your thing it's not your thing bud. My sister doesn't like the original series either but that's because she notices certain flaws that i am able to overlook according to my standards of entertainment. We just see these movies in two very different ways. Hopefully The Hobbit will give you the sense of joy us fans of the LOTR share. I kind of figured I'd get thumbed down for my post, but I mainly wanted to give props to the (obviously) visually stunning trailer. I'm sincere when I say it is beautiful. But, I also felt it important to express that I'm not a fan of the series, but I'm still impressed with what I'm seeing. Does that mean I'm going to see the movie? Maybe/maybe not. I have my reservations; however, being as I'm not a fan of LOTR, I felt my compliment was a little more sincere than the typical response

Beautiful

Simply beautiful. This is why i go to the movies. This is why I love movies. Can't believe it's been 7 years since Return of the King. It feels like I just watched that movie this past summer. This is the movie we deserve. This movie is the unexpected journey that will bring us there and back again. I'm definitely in.

Literally brought tears to my eyes. Such a wonderful world Tolkein created and such a wonderful director in Jackson to bring it to the screen for us all to enjoy.

I know it's winter and chilly in general, but I believe the goosebumps I have are from seeing Thorin, hearing the dwarves sing, and watching Gollum and Bilbo together.

Still can't get over it, and it's not the fault of the filmmakers, this tale is anti climactic.

I'm getting an extended edition feel from this, not an epic conclusion vibe.

For someone who hasn't seen the Lotr trilogy, all two of them, i would recommend watching these two films first then watching Lotr.

I had no idea this was in direct competition to TDKR

I mean, here I was noticing that one movie is being released in the summer and the other in the winter. Two movies which have no relation to one another in anyway.

I have literally NOT had chills watching a trailer in so long, it was almost weird feeling those -- This movie looks amazing. All my warm memories of watching the LOTR films every year has come back... I am SO stoked for this now...

If the world ends on December 21 2012, at least I'll be glad I was able to watch The Hobbit first. Perfect trailer, perfect vibe, and everything I could have possibly wanted from a LOTR prequel trailer. Pure awesome.

I like it. Nothing too unexpected...seems good to the source material. I like that we are getting 13 unique dwarves and not 13 copies of Gimli. I see no children of Shelob though, nor Beorn...maybe this film only gets them as far as the Misty Mountains.

I heard the "bridge" film idea is dead...was that ever confirmed? That this will just be 2 films about The Hobbit and that's it? No Aragorn growing up?

While I am happy to be going back to Middle Earth next year, I feel like this trailer didn't really live up to the epicness of it all. Consider that The Hobbit source material wasn't epic at all. It was a children's book based on the "epic" material of Middle Earth that JRRT hadn't published. Only with LOTR did he properly "go deep". So...it shouldn't be epic.

Looks great. If you told me this was filmed at the same time as Lord of the Rings, I'd believe you. The actors, costumes, sets, cinematography, music by the great Howard Shore, etc, all blend in perfectly to the previous films. 2012 will be an epic year for movies.

I'm astonished that people are comparing Batman to these films. There is no denying that Christopher Nolan is an incredible director and his Batman films are excellent, but Peter Jackson has made a series of movies that will transcend time and age. Generations from now these films will still be watched and and beloved. I don't see that being the case with Batman; no matter how popular the films are right now.

I'm not giving it green because I felt something was missing. Jackson NAILED the trilogy, but something about this (Del Toro leaving, etc etc) just feels rushed. I do not doubt Jackson to deliver, but the first look was eh....unlike Nolan, Jackson let you know where things were going....

I'm so fucking glad that Peter Jackson is directing this project. No offense to Del Toro but it just wouldn't have been the same with anyone else. The look is identical to the original trilogy and McKellen seems to have slipped back into his role like no time has passed at all (Serkis/Holms/Cate as well).. this trailer was a beautiful thing.

I am so THERE!!!!!

I haven't been this jazzed to see a movie since I saw the first trailer for Fellowship of the Ring over ten years ago. Not sure I like the whole "Let me tell you a story, Frodo" angle, but the rest of the trailer more than made up for it. Especially loved the 'Ring' theme at the end. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have (a) change my underwear and (b) watch it again!

I'll admit that when I first heard they were making this, I thought, "Why?" The LOTR trilogy is awesome, why mess with it? A Hobbit movie didn't need to be made. You might be able to enjoy the Hobbit. But there is no doubt that TDKR is going to have so much more depth, intelligence, and real meaning to it. Nolan is in a league all his own. He is really the first filmmaker to bring us films of such high caliber. Its hard to look at Jackson's overly heavy handed sentimentalism and be excited. Not after Nolan has shown the light. Other filmmakers should follow his example.

Yes. Because Nolan's Batman Begins was such a great movie with a strong story and great action sequences. And Inception was an even better movie, a movie that had never before been seen and I did not fall asleep once during it...

Seriously man I think Nolan is a great film maker but come on he isn't the God you make him out to be. Oh and I am super excited for TDKR, excited beyond belief... but The Hobbit is what I'm looking forward to more. I can't believe I actually get to anticipate two movies so much in one year and we should all be happy that this is happening. Oh and congrats on having over 80 thumbs down man,

Child Like Glee...

at my age! The trailer was simply spectacular and the dwarf song sent shivers down my spine and made the hairs on my neck stand up. Awesome footage, just enough so that I would play it over and over and over again (sorry friends, yep that was probably me inhaling all the bandwith around 10:00 PM EST). Great scenes w/Gandalf that blew me, away, the dwarves surrounded by the elves at Rivendell, the gorgeous Cate Blanchett (hasn't aged period), etc. I could go on and on.

Seeing these gives me that warm feeling of adolescent nostalgia. The LOTR series became a bit of a holiday tradition for me, and I'm happy that I get to do that again!

WOW!

Seeing good ol' Gandalf, Galadriel, Bilbo,(some of) Frodo, and of course Gollum again gave me goosebumps. I can't wait for this film! I was kind of hoping to see some creature action like the three trolls (I am dying to know if they stayed true to the look of them as statues in Fellowship of the Ring), the spiders, Goblins, Wargs and such but oh well, you can't really go wrong here. I knew we wouldn't see Smaug at all. Now excuse me, I need to go watch it again.
