It's time for a cage fight in the first clip from Marvel's Iron Fist

Yesterday saw the release of what looks to be the final trailer for Marvel's last Defender, Iron Fist. The story didn't seem to differentiate itself from comic book origins that we've seen before, with the emphasis on Finn Jones pulling off a lot of kung fu moves. Today we have the first clip from the series, and this time around, Danny Rand is nowhere to be found. Instead, Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing finds herself in a cage match! Take a look!

There's a brutality to the combat in shows like Luke Cage, and especially Daredevil, that seems to be missing here. Suffice it to say that I think Iron Fist looks like pure TV vanilla. With that said, I do think the character will play better within the Defenders group. As is the usual with Marvel Netflix shows, I'll still check this out to see what it has to offer.

Marvel's Iron Fist will hit Netflix on March 17th.

Lack of brutality? She snaps a dude's arm. I'm not sure how that's lacking in brutality, but I get your point. I think this show will aim for more of the martial arts twist, which has me very excited. One thing I've loved about each of the Defender's shows is how it has tackled different styles, and this fits my interest more than any other. A Marvel show on Netflix that's aimed entirely at playing the Martial Arts angle? Sounds like a winner to me! Very excited, and this clip is pretty great.

I wouldn't judge the brutality, or lack thereof here, of the series based on this clip for a few reasons. First this was a controlled fight not a criminal street fight. There were rules here, tap or knockout. It was basically just an underground MMA league. Life wasn't at stake here. Also heroes sometimes start out light before crossing the kill zone line So this could very well be our introduction to Colleen. I mean i don't expect Danny to kill the people in the first fight we see him in. So

That being said, of the 4 defenders, Danny is most definitely the one that would be the pure Jedi whereas the others would be more the Dark Jedi route.

True this doesn't look quite Luke Cage/Daredeil-level brutal, but part of that might have to do with the emphasis on martial arts. Sure, Daredevil utilizes martial arts, too, but he's less about technique than putting his foe down. And, too, there's that shot of David Wenham with his face covered in blood, so I'd say there's some promise of brutality.
