It's time to look for a new Superman!

11.18.2010

The hunt for the new Superman begins!

It's being reported that Warner Bros, Chris Nolan and director Zack Snyder are casting a "wide net" to find the next Supes.

Insiders say that the studio will either hire a newcomer, or an actor from television who isn't a big star. They will be looking for someone in the range of 28-32. The studio expects to look at hundreds of actors before making a decision. It's also being said that the decision will take about as long as it did for them to crown Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man.

Which actors from television will be eyed according to the report from Deadline? Armie Hammer (GOSSIP GIRL, THE SOCIAL NETWORK), Joe Manganiello (TRUE BLOOD), Ian Somerhalder (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES), and even Jon Hamm (MAD MEN). Yes, Hamm is over the age limit they mentioned, but they still mentioned him being a possibility. Maybe they are making an exception for him. Everytime his name gets thrown into Superman talk, I feel like Lloyd from Dumber and Dumber, "So you're sayin' there's a chance..."

When Hamm was confronted with the rumors back in September this is how he responded, "Those are sort of the Internet things that one person says and 15 more people twitter it and then it becomes this sort of phenomenon. It's sort of news to me, but if the powers-that-be are thinking that, I'd like them to get in touch with me. We can maybe discuss this." Hamm knew then that his age factored in, "I don't know, I think unless Superman's power was the power of being really old... I may be aged out of that competition."

Before Bryan Singer took over SUPERMAN RETURNS, there were talks that Matt Bomer (CHUCK, WHITE COLLAR) was being courted by McG and Brett Ratner. Will his name get brought back up even though he is 33? Maybe they will go with an unknown. That is the grand tradition of things on the big and small screen. George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Tom Welling, and Brandon Routh were all discoveries.

So who will be the Man of Steel?

Extra Tidbit: Name your choices for Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as well. May as well make this fun.
