Paramount and Plan B are gearing up to start filming for WORLD WAR Z this summer, however they'll have to find a new director for the project first, as Deadline is reporting that J.A. Bayona (THE IMPOSSIBLE, THE ORPHANAGE) has exited the sequel due to scheduling conflicts.

The studio wants the film to head into production in time for its planned 2017 release, but Bayona is currently doing post-production work on his latest directorial effort A MONSTER CALLS, and doesn't believe he'll be able to finish his commitments on that movie before this summer. In a statement, Paramount confirmed to the site that Bayona has left the film, saying “Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon.”

Brad Pitt is set to reprise his role from the first movie, and whoever is hired to take over for Bayona will be directing from a script by Dennis Kelly and Steven Knight . Who would you like to see helm WORLD WAR Z 2?

WORLD WAR Z 2 is scheduled to open on June 9, 2017.

This is could be good or bad. I don't know. I really enjoyed The Impossible, but hopefully they can get an equally great director to do it. It's all about finding the right person for the job. I enjoyed the first one more than most people, and I suspect it's because I've never read the book so I don't compare it to that. Hopefully it turns out great!

The first film completely screwed over one of the best zombie books ever written, so I wouldn't wish it's sequel on any filmmaker.

Alfonso Cuaron

He hasn't committed to anything since Gravity. Children of Men was fantastic. Might be available?

They should get Terry Gilliam, Frank Darabont, or just rehire Marc Foster again.

Marc Forster did a great job in the 1st one

why not him again ????
but, if they want another talented spaniard director, I would pick Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who directed one of my favorites zombie movies : 28 WEEKS LATER

yes, you are absolutely right !
we often forget how hard is to make those huge movies... : studios pressure and the hate from the people who will always complain about the respect of the original work

From what I recall, Brad Pitt and Marc Forster weren't even speaking to each other by the end of production and that all communications went through intermediaries. Doubt Pitt would be eager to rehire Forster any time soon.

look I enjoyed the first film but I lack Interest in a sequel and I don't think too many people are screaming out for one either. I see Box Office Bomb even thou it has little competition at the moment except for week 3 of the next Star Wars film.
