Jack Bauer headed to the bigscreen in upcoming 24 film?

Get ready for Jack Bauer and his f*ck-you-up antics. The popular high-concept television series is getting ready to explode onto the silver screen.

24, starring Kiefer Sutherland as no-holds-barred federal agent Jack Bauer, is currently in its 8th and presumably last season. Fox has not sketched out a deal for a 9th, though that decision might hinge on how the current week's ratings stack up. The general consensus, though, seems to be that this will be it for the show on the small screen. However, star Kiefer Sutherland - who's also an executive producer on the series - hopes the property could become a feature film franchise.

Writer Billy Ray (VOLCANO, SHATTERED GLASS, the WESTWORLD remake) has been brought on to hammer out the film's script. Fox execs apparently went gaga over Ray's pitch. The story would see Bauer bring his brand of terror control to Europe.

It's no mystery why Fox would want to turn one of its hit shows into a movie. Apart from the ill-advised THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE (which opened six years after the "The X-Files" series went off the air and tanked at the box office), the first X-FILES film and especially THE SIMPSONS, did decent to great business respectively in the U.S. and even better overseas. Should a 24 film actually get made while the brand is still fresh in people's minds, I suspect it too would do pretty well.

Seeing as how Season 1 stands as a series better than 90% of the action movies out there, sustaining an exhilarating plot with twists and turns for 20 or so hours, I'm totally down for an actual24 movie. Considering how insane the special effects and stunts in season 7 were, I'd love to see 24 with a movie's budget.

Huh?

Did you guys copy and paste the story from the start of 2008 and change the season numbers?

This story almost has Jurassic Park IV legs..

The prospect for a movie has been going around for a while and even though these are the latest developments, I think they could pull it off.

Granted, any die-hard 24 fan such as myself will say that. Technically, Redemption was a test run of the 2-hour story format. I'm with Soloist and Spaulding325 - do Europe but for Season 9.

So...how is Jack Bauer in Europe any different than "Taken", except for the child part?

Not sure how I feel about this news of 24 the movie. I would rather see a season 9 of 24 in Europe then an actual movie. With The X-Files it made sense, with this....not so much.

i would definitely see this. although i thought that movie version that's been talked about for so long was that 24: REDEMPTION tv movie that bridged into the last 7th season. good to hear it wasn't as that was kinda crap compared to many of the seasons of the show.

I don't watch this show, so I could care less, but maybe if this gets defunct TV series to be picked up as movies (I'm speaking mainly, of course, about VERONICA MARS), it could be a good thing.
