Jack Black is producing a small town serial killer comedy for ABC

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Moments ago, it was announced that ABC has made plans to develop an ensemble single-camera comedy with Jack Black's Electric Dynamite and ABC Studios set to produce. Entitled BORING, OR, the show will be centered around a small town with a serial killer on the loose. It follows Jonna, a police officer, who is determined to stop the killings while the rest of the townspeople remain dead set on not letting it affect their day-to-day lives. At its heart, BORING, OR asks the question, “If I’m okay, does it matter that other people aren’t?” Stephen Soroka of THE UPRIGHT CITIZEN'S BRIGADE will pen the script for the forthcoming comedy in addition to serving as supervising producer.

Along with Black's Electric Dynamite banner, Spencer Berman will executively produce the new series alongside Eric Appel.

For the moment, no casting announcements have been made, nor has a release window been set for BORING, OR. As far as ideas go for a new show, this one sounds like it could be a real hoot if properly executed. Though part of me has to wonder about the recent rise in serial killer-related entertainment. After all, with releases like David Fincher's MINDHUNTER receiving plenty of acclaim and Amanda Wyss' TRIGGERED now being on its bloddy way to screens, are mass-murderers "in," once again? Or, have they been lurking within the shadows of Hollywood this entire time? Dun dun dunnnnnnn!
