Jack Huston may be in the running to play Doctor Strange

08.25.2014

When news came down recently that BOARDWALK EMPIRE fan favorite Jack Huston was cast in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, the comments were fully in support of the talented Brit getting an even bigger role to showcase his acting chops. Rumors are now swirling that he may be in consideration for the lead in his biggest project to date: Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE.

This is Infamous cites sources that claim Huston is being considered for the title role and that Scott Derrickson and Kevin Feige are looking to lock someone in soon. Huston is young but has shown serious gravitas on both BOARDWALK EMPIRE and in small roles in films like AMERICAN HUSTLE. He would easily be able to pull of the role of the Sorceror Supreme if it were offered to him.

Marvel has had quite the laundry list of contenders for DOCTOR STRANGE ranging from Jon Hamm, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto, Tom Hardy, and now Huston amongst others. All of these actors range in age, experience, and fame, but Huston would fit with the model that Marvel has gone with in casting their superheroes as he is the least known of the bunch. It remains to be seen who will be selected but stay tuned for the announcement in the near future.

DOCTOR STRANGE hits theaters on July 8, 2016.

To be honest, I never had him in mind but his picture next to Doctor Strange here makes him look the part. I think we just found our Doctor.

I'm still hoping Jeffrey Dean Morgan enters the mix.

I think Marvel are collecting 'The Losers'. Idris Elba, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana... Surely JDM is next? :-)

He seems like the best choice yet, I hope it happens. Marvel must be a fan of Boardwalk, with Charlie Cox also cast as Daredevil. Quick, somebody find a role for Michael Pitt.

Can't say I hate the idea. I think he already got that cool, dark and mysterious look down pat. I don't always watch Boardwalk Empire but when I do I always wait for his scenes to show up.

So if he were cast, then American Hustle would have Batman, Lois Lane, Rocket Raccoon, Hawkeye, Mystique, and again if cast Doctor Strange in it.

Pretty awesome and funny.

Good Choice

He could easily play this character having both the acting talent and looks like Dr. Strange.

Seems like a good fit. He also auditioned for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (not a good fit), so maybe Marvel liked him enough to want to work with him on something else.

Yeah, after seeing Guardians of the Galaxy, I can't imagine anyone else playing the lead parts. Especially Star Lord. Pratt IS THE perfect Peter Quill/Star Lord.

He would be an inspired choice, and I would be fine with the guy playing Strange if chosen, but I still think Joaquin Phoenix would be the best person for the role and I hope the rumors of him getting the role are confirmed soon.

And again, if not him then I am rooting for Jon Hamm or Patrick Wilson. Like I stated before, Wilson gives off such a vibe and appearance in The Conjuring that would be perfect for Doctor Strange.

Joaquin Phoenix is DOC STRANGE

The Hollywood production newsletter Below The Line accidentally posted an official production listing for the film listing the director and accurate producers and at the bottom one sole cast member Joaquin Phoenix! They don't have a production office set up yet and are in active development but that was either a huge oops no one told us not to move or ????? He would make the film amazing and add so much credibility. As far as the director choice...juries out until we see something but Marvel

Most of their choices are curious at first and then seem genius in retrospect.

Enough with this Joaquin Phoenix crap... He's only good for playing unlikeable awkward losers and he will just suck the life out of every movie he's in. He's Sean Penn mixed with Woody Allen.

Keep him away from Marvel movies. Pleace.

Right, because he just sucked the life out of Walk The Line with his brilliant performance and portrayal of Johnny Cash. Who was not a unlikeable, awkward loser at all.

The guy is one of the best actors around. Marvel would be smart to sign him as soon as possible.

He was so wrong for Johnny Cash and he DID suck in that awful movie. I like Johnny Cash, but that movie made him out to be a buffoon... In fact that just proves my point - he can make even Johnny Cash suck, so why bother? But he wasn't the only one to blame, that movie is just a prime example of reducing someone's life to exploitative Oscar bait.

I really like this idea. I think if Marvel wants the Doc to be the lead as they transition to an inevitable cinematic universe w/o RDJ someday than Cumberbatch is my favorite choice as he'll bring a certain charisma and make the character his own, (he'd probably just play the part charmingly arrogant like he does Sherlock). But I really like Huston (tin face!) for a more orthodox approach to the character. So I'd be happy with either
