Jackie Chan

There hasn't been any movement on Jackie Chan's untitled action-comedy about a detective tracking down a gambler in almost a year but now Coming Soon has some news on Chan's first English-language film since THE KARATE KID.

Now called SKIPTRACE, the film will be directed by Sam Fell (PARANORMAN) and is be based off of an idea by Jackie Chan. Exclusive Media has agreed to produce and co-finance the film with Jay Longino (BACHELOR PARTY 2: THE LAST TEMPTATION) writting the script with help from Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, who also wrote THE SITTER. In addition, international star Fan Bingbing has signed on to the film although it is unknown what role she will play. The film also does not have a release date at this time.

So what is SKIPTRACE about?

The action comedy follows a Hong Kong detective (Chan) who is tasked with tracking down a mouthy American gambler on the run from his creditors. The men form an unlikely partnership and attempt to take down Hong Kong’s most notorious criminal, while embarking on a wild journey through some of China's most scenic and exotic locales.

I'm sure I won't be the first person to say it but SKIPTRACE sounds like it's one Chris Tucker away from being part of the RUSH HOUR franchise. This film unfortunately sounds like something we've seen dozens of times before and with Longino and company working on the script I don't have much confidence in SKIPTRACE. Like many of you my first exposure to Jackie Chan was RUMBLE IN THE BRONX and while I understand he's older now I think he can do a little better than another generic "two people from different cultures team-up to stop the bad guys" film.

At least he's going to be in THE EXPANDABLES 3...I think.

Extra Tidbit: What's your favorite Jackie Chan stunt?

Hey, at least it's not another goddamn sequel, remake, reboot, re-imagining, spin-off or whatever the fuck.

More buddy cop stuff, I'm down!

Actually would be refreshing, especially seeing Chan in a role like this... whoever plays the gambler will be key to the movie though, lookin forward to that casting

Rumble in the Bronx

Jumping from rooftop to opposite fire escape. The actual stunt is shown in credits, and you realize he is doing a lot of the rest of the film in a cast with a sneaker sleeve. Looking at that stunt, even at best you are breaking something. Nuts

Always love to watch Jackie chan.James Bond and Jackie chan are the biggest chapters in the history of Action films.his latest film Chinese Zodiac is grossly underrated.it has wonderful action scenes Tidbit : sliding down the building in "who Am I".don't know how much of it is real.another one would be sliding down the pole in a shopping mall in Police Story

I loved ParaNorman, it will be interesting to see Sam Fell direct a live-action film and a Jackie Chan one at that. CZ12/Chinese Zodiac/Armour of God III was okay, it had some pretty neat stunt work in it, but it was also relentlessly silly and rather blatantly a vanity project. I know Jackie Chan has spoken that he'd rather not continue the Rush Hour franchise and he and Chris Tucker did have some disagreements at one point or another. There was a planned Jackie Chan project a long time ago

There was a planned Jackie Chan project a long time ago that became the subject of an urban legend, in which Chan was to play a window washer at the World Trade Center who ended up foiling a terrorist attack. That premise sounds like it would've made for a good Jackie Chan project.

I saw his latest Armour of the Gods movie, he still has it.

I know its called Chinese Zodiac but its really the final part of his Armour of the Gods trilogy. As long as he isn't making movies for idiots or kids, he does really well. I just hope this new movie is for his adult fans.

This does sound like Rush Hour. Extra tidbit: the whole movie of Rumble in the Bronx and the one where Jackie Chan slides down the top of the high-rise building in "Who Am I".
