Jake Gyllenhaal braintrips on a train in the trailer for Source Code

Nov. 19, 2010by:

After making his feature debut with the lunar mindwarp MOON, director Duncan Jones is continuing with more ambitious heady sci-fi with SOURCE CODE, his new twisty train terrorism thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal.

The synopsis: When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he's ever known, he learns he's part of a government experiment called the "Source Code," a program that enables him to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

Kind of a DEJA VU meets "Quantum Leap" theme, but seems fascinating. The movie arrives April 15, 2011. Check out the trailer below or in HD at Apple.

Extra Tidbit: I'd be eager to jump back in for Michelle Monaghan, too. How about you?

This looks good. I thought Moon was fantastic and this seems like the next logical step for a director with so much potential. It till be interesting to see how Jones handles the action bits, as this at least seems like it has plenty of action bits. But, it also seems like a pretty big mind trip, which is something I have confidence in the director.

I loved Moon, but this looks a bit conventional / predictable. Another immersive computer program? Will probably catch it on DVD..

Looks awesome. Duncan Jones seems to have a great career in front to him. Also, I don't care what people say, Jarhead is a great movie and Jake is a great actor.

Awesome

Sci-Fi is one of those genre's that has limitless potential to tell a great story - big thanks to Duncan Jones for harnessing that in a Hollywood full of remakes and sequels.

I can see the Quantum Leap and Deja Vu comparisons but the film I couldn't help but think of when watching the trailer was 12 Monkeys. I'm not hating though. I've been looking forward to this for a while now. I hope it's a success so Jones can do the Blade Runner-esque film he's been talking about.

Looks good, but I hope the 8-minute scene on the train doesn't repeat itself many times, that would be kinda boring.

Seems pretty solid

I've been a fan of Jake since Rendition and Prince of Persia (I'm entitled to my own opinion) and Moon was a fantastic little gem. So I'm game.

Apart from Quantum Leap, it also seem reminiscent of Deja Vu.

Does look a lot like an action-packed Quantum Leap

But hell, I love Quantum Leap. And I loved Moon too- this is now one of the must-see films of next year for me.

Duncan Jones: Nepotism?

What, Jake? Forget the time-traveling wabbit?
