James Bond is finally on his way back, thanks to Sony

4 years agoby:

He's been out of action for a while, but James Bond will soon be reporting to M for his latest assignment, courtesy of Sony.

We've heard plenty about BOND 23 over the past few months, including potential actors as the villain and a theoretical release date. But with MGM's unstable financial situation, nothing could officially happen.

As announced today, Sony will help put the Walther PPK back in Daniel Craig's hand:

"Sony Pictures Entertainment will remain in the James Bond business after reaching an agreement with MGM to co-finance and theatrically market and distribute Bond 23 worldwide, it was announced today by MGM Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum and Sony Pictures Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton and Co-Chairman Amy Pascal. Sony will release the next film in this iconic franchise on November 9, 2012 throughout the world except for select International territories, where MGM will directly oversee distribution.

Sony Pictures and MGM look forward to Sony Pictures co-financing and distributing Bond 24 on a similar basis.

“After successfully working on the re-launch of the James Bond franchise with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, we could not be more proud or privileged to continue our association with Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson, Daniel Craig, and the talented teams at EON and MGM,” said Pascal."

Director Sam Mendes (AMERICAN BEAUTY, ROAD TO PERDITION) is presumably still behind the camera on 007's latest mission.

Cool, but I'm really confused by the guy below who thinks the new Bond girls have sucked. Besides Eva Green, we've had Caterina Murino, Olga Kurylenko, and Gemma Arterton. How on earth can you be dissatisfied with 4 absolutely scorching hot women like that?

Right on

Best news I have heard in awhile. I want me some Moneypenny and Q as well. But why does everyone call for gadgetry? I really don't get it. I personally think the best Bond moments are when he dominates without having a pen that shoots acid.

Have you all forgot the invisible car? My god....

Where's Q?

I understand that apparently Q and the gadgets weren't in the books.

And I also understand that this is supposed to be a more realistic and gritty take on Bond.

But frankly without Q and the gadgets, it just feels like a generic action flick.

I'm not saying we need invisible cars.

But there is real life spy gadgetry that could easily be brought into the franchise, and I think the films would benefit greatly from their inclusion.

I'm with you on that one. We need Q and some gadgets.

I like the new Bond movies but not as much as the old ones as I find they're missing that Bond feel/vibe. They are a bit too much "generic action flick".

Give us some rocket launching pencils and flying tuxedos!!!

I second that notion too. :) I want a really gritty bond movie even more so then the others. With gagets. Also not on bond or anything but I want a twisted metal movie. been wanting one for years.

Hope it is more Goldeneye/Casino Royale. I don't want another Quantum of Solace or Die Another Day disaster.

The Redeemer

Loved Casino, disliked Quantum. Too much shaky-cam. This movie is important.

I would say that Quantum is the modern SPECTRE. But I would love to see more of QUANTUM as we've only seen a handful of its members. I just hope the have cool henchmen in this next one.

Awesome! I'm guessing this is still suppose to be the last part of the "Bond becoming Bond" theme. If so, I'm hoping we see Q and Moneypenny introduced.

Hooray!

Now lets make a real Bond movie! Not some Bourne knockoff epilogue to a previous film. Bonus points if the Bond girls look like they've eaten a steak at some point in their lives. Jane Seymour-worthy curves!

Inception was a better James Bond movie than Quantum of Solace. Lets get back to the promise of Casino Royale.

And yeah, would love to see a 21st Century post-Dr. Evil take on Blofeld.

I love me some Eva Green (she's got it where it counts) but Quantum was a stickfest.

At least Marc Forster won't be back. Watching the opening chase sequence from "Quantum" almost made me seize. It was one of the worst edited action sequences ever. The whole film was very underwhelming

Extra tidbit

Quantum already *are* the 21st century version of SPECTRE - same basic private army and domination deal, only this time with a conspiracy of corporate bosses and banks. And who doesn't want to see them as the bad guy these days?

Yeah, but Quantum was pretty weak, with their Bolivian coup and exploding desert hotel. I want to see an actual badass secret organization for him to battle.
