James Franco will win over Bryan Cranston in the Why Him? red band trailer

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry—and Ned’s panic level—escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.

This is one of those concepts on paper that, while not bringing anything new to the table, actually looks really fun. Given that this is the red-band trailer for the film, I'm actually surprised at how tame it is. This movie doesn't look like it's even trying to push the levels of filth and awkwardness that can be reached with family situations like this. It would be a shame to waste the talent involved, so I'm hoping the next trailer brings a little more to the table.

WHY HIM? will hit theaters on December 25, 2016.

If this movie had anyone else other than Bryan Cranston I wouldn't give a shit. But Bryan Cranston makes this film look decent. When he's plotting his moves in the trailer, I imagine him bald and with a goatee. He is the one who knocks!!

I think Guess Who's Coming to Dinner/Meet the Parents scenarios are tricky to pull off anyway, but this misses the mark on so many levels. For starters, these people do not exist in the real world. Never mind that they seem to completely be wasting the man that was Heisenberg (when was this movie made again?). James Franco actually seems like, well, James Franco, with the slightest reminder of how great he was in Spring Breakers, with all the tats. And then Keegan-Michael Key and Adam Devine

And then Keegan-Michael Key and Adam Devine just happen to be there? Again, when was this made?

These people don't exist in the real world? Billionaires who act how they want because they're billionaires and over protective fathers who think no one is good enough for their little girl? Sure dude.

They feel like they're characters from a bad sitcom. Franco, at least, seems to be giving his character an edge that maybe wasn't just the character as written. The rest feels so by-the-numbers. I at least hope Cranston gets to show off some. He really looks wasted in this role.

I don't know about the film, but I love that poster!
Sure, it's oversaturated, but looks like they were together when the photo was taken, and it captures the conflict of the movie perfectly (love Cranston's look).

Looks like one of those movies with like one or two outrageous moments people will talk about, but the rest of the movie is dull crap

Very Typical.......................

Why is it 'R' comedies insist on just throwing out the word fuck, weed and sexual situations/innuendos and expecting it to be funny? It's lazy comedy and every single trailer looks the exact same. Take out Franco, put in Seth Rogen, you still get the same effect/movie. The wife on drugs in the bedroom gag was beyond cringe worthy.
