James Mangold tweets that The Wolverine is nearly complete and a new image of Hugh Jackman looking buff

05.15.2013

The Wolverine

Director James Mangold is at it again on his Twitter account. This time the director has tweeted that work on THE WOLVERINE is almost finished and that they'll be recording the score and mixing the film starting this week.

Mangold later tweeted an image of Hugh Jackman and Hiroyuki Sanada practicing with their swords and claws on each other. I know I'm not the first to bring this up but Jesus H. Christ does Hugh Jackman look huge. Say what you will about Hugh Jackman but that man certainly knows how to bulk up for his roles.

While THE WOLVERINE originally was going to be a stand alone film, with the addition of a possible new end credit scene and time travel being introduced in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST it does seems like THE WOLVERINE will be an official part of X-MEN's film canon. At this point though I don't care: I just want the film to deliver.

We'll be able to see if THE WOLVERINE is a triumphant return or another disappointing chapter for Logan when the film hits theaters on July 26th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: How do you think Hugh Jackman's time as Wolverine will end: the studio wanting to go in a new direction or the actor deciding he's done playing the character?

I agree with Wolvie_85.. 6 movies and we still have'nt seen him in costume.. I think that's why this movie doesn't look as excitng as the other comic book movies.. A Tank Top is not a costume.

Jackman looks like he's going to be the tallest guy in the whole damn movie! Aside from the "Silver Samurai" which looks like some kind of mech. I appreciate Jackman's take on the role. He made it his own Wolverine but I would like to see the comic version of Wolverine on the big screen.

Jackman is always all in when he plays Wolverine. I'm sure the day will come where he can't physically prepare for the role and will want to step aside. Let's hope we get one more out of him, hopefully fighting Omega Red or Cyber.

I love the fact that Mangold keeps us up to date like this. Loved all his movies, especially his 3:10 remake. This is going to be sick.

Did i call him fat?
Look at the photo it looks like hes doing a Mitchum and holding in the gut puffing out the chest.

You probably don't get the reference tho.

I think when Jackman no longer wants to play him, then they will move on. I think to some degree his enthusiasm for the character has helped the sheer number of appearances made (would they have included him in First Class if Jackman hadn't given his consent?). While Downey's persona has added so much to Tony Stark in a way that might be difficult for another actor to take on, Wolverine isn't necessarily that hard, since he is more of a man of action. But as long as the Aussie wants to return

Id like to see someone else tackle both roles.
Worked for batman, hulk, superman and spider-man when they had crappy movies made.

Toby was a good Spider-Man. Dorkiness? Check. Not scrawny as a stick? Check. Cheesy jokes? Heck yeah.

Yeah, Hugh's great. Even though I didn't think he encompassed Wolverine as well as I would have liked, there's no denying that he made the character appealing, and it also made his career. I'd still like to see the character get recast. It's time.

i love hugh jackman's wolverine but....

he isn't the end-all be-all. wolverine is a pretty common character-type (wasn't he originally based on clint eastwood?)

i think if they did a complete x-men reboot, fans would be open to a new actor as wolverine. i remember thinking edward norton as bruce banner would be as good as it could get, but it only took one (relatively) minor but knock-out performance performance by ruffalo in the avengers, and nobody looked back since.
