James Wan in talks to direct Malignant Man for Fox

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As he puts the finishing touches on FAST AND FURIOUS 7 (or whatever it’s going to be called), James Wan may have just locked up his next gig: an adaptation of the graphic novel MALIGNANT MAN, which he helped write with Michael Alan Nelson for BOOM Studios.

Malignant Man focuses on Alan Gates, a cancer patient with a terminal diagnosis who is resigned to his fate until he discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious parasite. Granted a second lease on life and incredible, otherworldly powers, Alan must fight against an evil army buried beneath society’s skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past.

Wan is said to “developing” the project, though it remains to be seen if it’s indeed his next film. As he had a hand in the comic, it’s safe to say he knows his way around the material.

20th Century Fox holds the rights to MALIGNANT MAN via its first look deal with BOOM. No further details are available at the moment.
